Fantastic for price
This is the third set of these knives I have bought as gifts for other people. My girlfriend (now wife) had some old knives she never took care of, so I looked around for economic knives I could give her. That was the first set. They arrived, and I was reasonably impressed. I love too cook, and admit to being a bit of a snob with my kitchenware. However, I could not afford a couple of thousand dollars to give her a really nice knife set. This set looks good in its case, and the knives seem to hold a good edge. Now that we are married, I use them almost every day. The pizza knife works great on a crisp crust, the rounded edge snaps through the crust. On a softer crust, the serrated edge seems to work well. The bread knife is pretty standard, but that means it cuts through bread just the way I want. The chef's and paring knives are both decent and work good for cutting fruits, vegetables, meats, etc. My only complaint is the knives do not have the weight of my high-end santoku. If you want a heavy cleaver or something similar, you will need to buy it separately. Otherwise, this has almost everything I need. The second set went to my stepdaughter, to replace the knives I refused to use at her house ;). She loves them, and got rid of her old knives. Now, my grandson keeps complaining about his knives, and covets his mothers. So, the third set is for him.

Sharp set
Great set. Knifes are really sharp. Love the color of them. Nice set that gas scissors, steak knifes, different size cutting knifes and a knife sharpener.

Fantastic Set!
I did hours of research on affordable knives, that also had an aesthetically pleasing look to them before *finally* committing to a purchase! Boy, was I glad that I did! These have been fantastic! I haven't had to use a sharpener at all yet (Though it is recommended after so much use)! I have nothing but good things to say, honestly, but I don't want to be a cliche, so lets get down to teh basics. I was mainly looking for a quality Chef's Knife, Paring Knife and Carving Knife - everything else was a bonus! The peeler works wonders! I have a garden and had loads of cucumbers this year, and the peeler cuts like butter! I almost weeped when I used the carving knife as well - I had an unthawed pack of bacon that needed to be cut into cubes - no time to stick it in the freezer to get a bit solid - so I broke out the carving knife and NEVER have I had an experience where the blade just went straight through unthawed meat like that! I was *AMAZED*. Need I say more? If you are having doubts, don't. Just go for it! It's a great, affordable product that looks beautiful on your kitchen counter. Make the plunge!

For the price it wont disappoint.
A few months ago I had a traumatic experience occur, I only say that so this review makes sense. I have had to replace about 75% of everything I owned and our cutlery was one. After looking at several sets and taking into account that I have much more to buy we decided to give this set a try. Now to begin with this was purchased for $35.00 so we didn't expect Shun quality knives. I expected decent knives that will work for the time being, until I can purchase a better set. Thus, I am quite surprised with them, the knives are quite sharp and seem to hold there edge well. We are vegans so we have only used them on fruits and vegetables yet they don't need constant sharpening and they make quick work of everything we have cooked. Now don't get me wrong, I do have some complaints. For starters, the knives feel really light in the hand. I don't know if this is a personal thing or not, but I prefer a knife to have some heft, so that is one issue and possibly the one I will over time have the most issue with. Another issue is the lack of a honing rod. That omission is annoying as I am required to use the included sharpener which while a nice addition slows me down. Lastly in the complaints, is the storage 'arc. Don't get me wrong, it is rather visually appealing, but I find it impractical as you can't set it under a cabinet and leave it there. You have to leave it out in the open, which I get it, it's supposed to be decorative. I just personally find it irksome. Yet, I still give this set 4 stars, because it isn't trying to be something it is not. This is a good cutlery set, it will if you take care of it, last you for a good amount of time. (Don't put them In the dishwasher, clean them soon after use. Etc. Etc.). For the price I dont think you can go wrong. If you're just starting out or starting over, this set will not disappoint you.

Very decent knife set
Btw, awesome email reminding a review so that's something to look forward to! The knives work well, all showed up in minimalist packaging and are good quality. Came very sharp and the sharpener includes a maintenance sharpen setting and an after every use setting. Very cool. The cheese and pizza knives are definitely the stars here. I never realized I had a difficult time cutting cheese until using this. Now it comes with cool patterns and doesn't stick to the blade. And the pizza knife is way easier than a pizza roller, which I wasn't expecting in the slightest. The stand is rigorous plastic and works well. I personally would have preferred wood cuz that's just who I am but the plastic is stylistic and not disproportionately large for what's included. If your debating getting this for a whole set need, this is definitely worth the price. Update: have had for about a year or so. The black fijish on the most used blades has started to come off as I expected. Also, one of the stainless steel knobs that help insert the knives in the stand comes loose if you let it. Overall still very much worth the price and regret nothing.

Love these
I bought a set 3 years ago after I sold my house and moved into a high-end apartment and wanted a certain aesthetic in my kitchen. I switched to black silverware and knives. They looked great. I bought a second set to keep as a spare in-case Amazong stopped selling them. Now, 3 years later I just moved into a house and bought my 3rd set (I can't find the other two in all the boxes anywhere, LOL). As far as durability, I used them regularly for over 2 years at first and they remained sharp and the pain had minor scuffs but didn't peel or anything. I don't know about other people's usage but I'm pretty gentle and careful with my stuff. I used it for cutting steaks, giant butternut squash, tomatoes, frozen chicken, my fingers (accidentally)... and they continued to remain effective and I never sharpened them once. Let's get back to that squash. Those are usually pretty difficult and scary but one of the knives in this set, if you use the right technique will cut right through it like butter. I can't see myself using any other set. The main thing is the clear holder and black color, it helps to keep the kitchen feeling open and less cluttered. I attached a picture, can you spot them? They just look like they belong there and out of the way.

Slashing prices has me cutting away
I'm no great chef, but I do cook a lot. And I have a personal "cooking challenge" where I do a never-before-tried recipe each month. So, knives play a constant role in my kitchen. As you can see in the first picture, I have a bunch of knives already, but when this set popped up as a Deal of the Day, I thought, "well, you can't have too many knives!" The thought might not be right, but the purchase sure was. The knife holder fits neatly tucked under my cabinets, right next to my knife block. And with Amazon's crazy super-fast shipping these days, I got everything just in time to use it while preparing for my big Halloween BBQ party. So, only three knives out of the gate to start, but they worked flawlessly. The paring knife sliced (for sausage and peppers) and chopped (for jambalaya) my peppers for me. I know those fancy chefs use the big blade, but I like my fingers, so I take the coward's path. The carving blade made quick work of my flank steak (for Mongolian beef). And there's that good ol' chef's blade slicing and then cubing my watermelon (for my handmade fruit salad). Plus! The knife sharpener. Amazingly, I didn't already have one. I immediately used it on a couple of my old knives and the little tool worked smoothly and crisply. A great set at a great price and they look great, too (hey, aesthetics count). This should do the trick for most everyone's needs.
