What kind of water to use? Tap or distilled?

I used distilled however it still cracked ..it gets hot and I love it but I only had it since January and the plastic cracked

The description doesn’t say, but what are the maximum height (and preferred width) on the towels this can hold?

I can put 9 of the barber towels in it. If I put them in wet the are very hot in 10 minutes. If I put them in dry it takes about a half hour and the middles are pretty much dry. I damp and roll them first before putting in and they stand upwards 3 in each row.

Does the timer tick loudly enough to disturb a massage?

It is a very light sound just so you know the timer is working. If spa music is playing during the massage, you will not hear the sound.
