Stop looking, THIS is the one you want!
Great product! Sturdy, versitile, and it fits everything. My Smartphones, iPod's, etc. Liked it so much, I now have two in my car, and two in my wife's! One thing I will say is, if you're not using it...it does rattle a bit while driving. But once you close the clamps (even one notch), it stops instantly. It's ONLY when it's completely unclamped that it does this. Cushioned sides protect your device. Groves/holes are strategically placed. VERY little effort involved in clampling your device in/getting it out. (I can do it one handed, WHILE backing out of my garage). Does what you want it to. Hold all your devices, safely and securely. For the best all around set up, get a proclip (custom mounts for EVERY car...google proclipusa) then, get the ARKON APGN-VSM Vehicle Specific Mount Adapter Plate to connect this Arkon holder to your mount, and you've got a solid, sleek setup that looks like it's part of your car, not some cludgey patch-work add-on. VERY happy with this product, and as I've said, I've used it a couple times, in all my vehicles.

Works great. Tested with iPhone 5, Note 2 and HTC M8.
I have quite a few Arkon products. Most are pretty good quality and this item is no different. I use a dash mounted Arkon bracket in one Jeep and a floor mounted "Gooseneck" in my other Jeep. The mounts are all the same for Arkon products so interchanging them is a breeze. This particular mount I purchased to hold my iPhone 5 when I don't need to use a full blown iPad when cruising around town. I have an iPad mount that I use for work and long road trips. My iPhone 5 is in a Pelican case and this cradle holds it perfectly. I also tested this cradle with a Galaxy Note 2 (No case) and the new HTC M8 (No case) and it holds them all very well. All in all very satisfied with the product and I'd definitely recommend to a friend.

Overall good phone holder
I bought one for my truck mainly because I had already had a mount setup for my GPS and this mount was compatible with connecting directly to the mount that the Garmin GPS uses, so I could switch them out. I got a second one when I bought another car. The second one I bought rattles a bit when it's open without a phone mounted, but I can just push the sides in and it stops. I recently bought a third for my other car that didn't need a phone holder before because it has Android Auto so I never needed to mount my phone, but I got it so I could more easily do Door Dash with that car as well. All of them have secured my phones well. They've only fallen off if I hit a big bump. The problem I have with them is when others use my vehicles and use the phone mount, they never seem the grasp the concept of how it works. They put the phone in correctly, but when they take it out they just pull the phone out without detracting the sides. That's a good way to wear out those foam pads quickly. Even worse is if they get back in the car, they just slide it back in. You must detract the sides to remove the phone. I personally prefer how it opens because it's a one handed thing that you can even do when driving if needed. A lot of phone holders I've seen require two hands to open it up and get the phone in or out. I'm not about that, especially doing Door Dash when I'm in and out of the car 15+ times in even just two to three hours. I've gotten a custom dash mount from ProClipUSA for all three of my vehicles with one of these Arkon phone mounts on each. It works perfect for my needs.

The Abosulute Best Phone Holder
This is by far the best phone holder for car that I have seen. I bought one in 2011 and it worked great thru 2 different vehicles never broke and only wore the foam grippers a little bit after years of use. Probably more from me pulling the phone out and pushing it in without releasing it than anything else. For years! Finally in my 3rd vehicle since purchasing the best product of anything my vehicle was stolen and I no longer had an Arkon. When I bought it I drove an Acura Integra stick shift. Without it my phone flew around the car! Im chill now in my Honda Van but I immediatly bought another Arkon because of the exceptional quality and design and to support that which is just made well. Its all too rare these days and if we only buy the cheapest products that dont last thats what we'll get. Get one you will love it.

Grips the phone well and holds onto it, but...
I really like this holder, but it does have one issue which is driving me a little batty right now. When the sun comes in through the windshield and warms the back of the holder, the ball and socket joint expands and the phone will slowly fall over numerous bumps. When it's cold out, it's fine. I tried to tighten it up more to get it to hold, but to get it tighter I would need a tool, and I don't want to pull the threads. Part of me is wondering: is it the collar nut which is expanding and allowing it to fall, or is it the plastic joint that expands more than the ball does and causes the slippage? My vote is on the latter, thinking the gap between the fingers of the joint are too large and don't allow the ball to be gripped tightly enough, or the fingers are bottoming in the nut causing the nut to not be tightened enough. Either way, I think this is going to need some work.

Altamente recomendable.
