Q: does this work with a microsoft surface?

Hi Mr.M, it would work well Win10/8.1/8 with PL2302 chipset, if your system is windows RT, you need to chose this cable with FTDI chipset.ASIN B00QUZY4L0.

Q: will this work with windows 10

Yes. I have just tried by installing the Windows 8 drivers from the included mini-disc of drivers, and connecting it to my elderly Garmin E-Trex H. I was using the GPS to enter my site coordinates into a planetarium software programme and it worked just fine. This was using a laptop previously running 8.1 and recently upgraded to Windows 10. To my inexperienced eye it appears to be a well made cable which I bought specifically for W 8.1 but am delighted to discover that it also works with W10. Hope this helps.

it dosent work with all cisco. routers ok switches not so much. better off getting startec one with ftdi chipset, that one definatly works. had to junk this one
