How much weight can this motor hold?

If weight you mean torque, its not much. mine reverses itself when it gets to hard for it to turn itself at the point it is almost binding.

Why does the direction of the rotation switch every 10-15 seconds?

I bought one and it seems the only time it switches directions is when it gets bound up. It moves in one direction until there is resistance then reverses direction. If yours is doing it without a load on it then its probably defective.
