Confidence Boost
Now I have decided my new colouring hobby is here to stay it is time to splash out on some top quality pencils. After much research, I have narrowed my search down to 2 choices. I will try a small box of each. The first is this box of 12 Faber-Castell polychromes. Not sure if I can add anything to all the previous reviews, but they are really lovely pencils to use. It surprised me how much better my colouring looked in my practice book. I wasn't using one of the really beautiful books I have, but a book with simple pictures to practice techniques yet my efforts were so much better than I have previously managed, thanks to these great pencils. I was able to create so many colours from this small set, the pencils were beautifully smooth and easy to blend and layer. As a comparative beginner to colouring, I did wonder if I would bother with expensive pencils as I am no artistic expert, just someone who always really enjoyed colouring as a child: tried it again as a relaxing hobby and found I love it just as much as when I was little. Having read many colourists reviews, watched plenty of YouTube demos I thought i would see if better quality pencils would make much of a difference, and am amazed at the outcome. These 12 pencils have improved my results so much and have given me an enormous boost of confidence. I was worried my efforts would not do my beautiful books justice, but this is no longer the case. I have no problem in thoroughly recommending these pencils, and don't believe that for me at least, others will beat them, but will try another manufacturers small set just to see.

Best coloured pencils that I have used ... so far!
Some years ago, I was working on an art project and decided to use Faber-Castell Polychromos Colour Pencils. I bought them as they are generally believed to be among the finest oil-based coloured pencils available on the market. I like the fact that they have dense pigment for vivid colours and excellent colour balance. With a smooth texture, they are great for blending and layering, and can be used with solvents. Unlike some coloured pencils, there was no smudging. These pencils hold a sharper point than most of the other brands that I have used, and I have never experienced breakage. I have found that polychromos pencils work best on smooth textured drawing paper. This is particularly beneficial to people with arthritis in the hands and fingers. From my positive experience in using Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, I can see why they are considered a favourite with artists worldwide!

Very good - at a price.
Excellent quality and vibrant colours. Good construction which allow easy sharpening without frustrating breakages. Deserving of 5 stars except for the price…quality should cost more but I think these aren’t the greatest value.

Love, Love, Love!
Polychromos are high quality and oil based so there is no bloom which I get with my wax pencils. The colours are bright, depending on pressure and layers, and they blend beautifully together. I rarely use a blending pencil. I've been using them for 9 months now and love the feel of the pencils and I can build colour with plenty of layers without scratching the tooth of the paper. They aren't as 'creamy' as my wax pencils but I've become used to polychromos and I prefer these now. They sharpen to a good point with regular sharpeners, without crumbling, but even more with a two point long sharpener... so detailed work is a breeze. So easy to see at a glance which colours are popular and need purchasing as free stock which are widely available. On the bottom layer there are three extra empty compartments, one with horizontal grooves for six more pencils, and the other two for erasers, pencil holders, or spare colours etc. Can't express how gorgeous this case is to keep these pencils protected! Simply stunning. It's an added bonus as it was my birthday treat... I would have been delighted with the tin set also. These pencils are a joy to use.

Faber Castell Polychromos Colour Pencils
These are always going to get 5 stars from me. I've used these for years, they were the go to pencils in our art department at secondary school and A-level, and I continue to use them still years later. The colours are vibrant, smooth, and easy to blend and they feel nice to hold for long periods of time.

Packaging: Seller(MSGH)/Amazon needs to improve the packaging for such costly/fragile items. It came with just the Amazon bag without any additional cardboard, etc for support due to which it was bent at few places. Luckily the pencils were not damaged. Pros: (reference : Orange peel drawing) 1) Nice colors (24 set good price. @1690/- seller MSGH). Lays down very well on paper. 2) Blends nicely with Baby oil (Johnson's) 3) Layers very well if paper is good or we can use oils to blend in-between and layer over it repeatedly. 4) Works well over watercolour or other pencils like Derwent Coloursoft. 5) Set of 24, if mixed as combo of every 2 pencils can produce good range of colours as seen in the attached chart. Cons: (Attached pics for bent tin) 1) Tin is very flimsy as noted by lot of others which doesn't help during shipping. But build quality is good since surface is very smooth without sharp edges. 2) White color is not very pigmented (compared to Coloursoft) but works for blending or when used with another colour. Note: Though I own the Derwent Coloursofts (favourite) and Artists (less pigmented, difficult to work) , I wanted to try something different before trying out the "Costly in India" Prismacolors eventually and I wasn't disappointed with the Polychromos. Definitely recommended 👍
