Great for grandchildren

I have bought this product for my daughter and also for some birthday party gifts. Its a lovely set to paint and display and children aged from careful four year olds to artistic 10 year olds are likely to enjoy.

Clay dries quickly and becomes a little brittle. Think I should have opted for clay that bakes in oven.

Lovely gift easy to do great for age group

I purchased this as a Christmas gift for an 8 year old. She loves pottery and making things, and as this was on a special deal at the time I thought it would be quite a good option for her to do at home, without having to buy too many additional materials.The slab of clay that comes with it is pretty large, so you could make a few items- it isn't just one of those one hit wonders where you can't do much with it :-) The instructions are very clear as well- although the child needed a little bit of help she was able to read them on her own, and digest what was meant to be done but at the same time it didn't make it too simple and dumbed down for older kids.The clay is air dry so you just have to leave it overnight and then you can paint it the next day. This might pose a little issue for some children who are impatient, but quite frankly shouldn't be a problem. I would suggest sticking to a simple design as the more complex ones- like the jewellery box- was a little complicated and didn't work too well.It is a great set, and excellent value. You will easily get your money's worth out of it. I would certainly purchase it again for another child. I think it would be usable for either sex, up until the age of probably 10 or 11, although you might get away with a bit older if they are really into art.

Pretty good value for the money and includes the paints too (although quite small).You'll have to be quite frugal with it to last the entire slab of clay (which is small as well). Really enjoy that it air dries and no oven is needed. The clay stays pliable for quite some time and the kids enjoy playing with it for a while.The biggest downside is that once dried, the clay is very fragile and brittle. It can crack and break even without touching. Nevertheless, the kids enjoy it. The paint dries quickly with a glossy sheen.Might buy again or try another brand to see if the dried clay is more durable.

This is the second time we have purchased this item. The first time around, it was a gift for our then 3 year old daughter as a Christmas present. She loved painting the tea set - there was enough paint to cover all items, and she was keen to do this independently. Needless to say, the items didn't look anything like the picture once painted! Having said that, with some time and care, it would not be difficult to paint designs similar to the ones on the box, and the tea set has a lovely sheen to it even after painting. Ours have stood the test of time - having been tossed about in a plastic box and used indoors and out, they have not broken, nor has the paint chipped. They are still being used nearly 3 years later. We decided to purchase as a present for a similarly aged child as we knew it would be well received and was of great quality.

The colors are amazing, I recommend oven at 150° for about 30 min.
