The Game Master's Book of Astonishing Random Tables: 300+ Unique Roll Tables to Enhance Your Worldbuilding, Storytelling, Locations, Magic and More ... RPG Adventures (The Game Master Series) Review: Great Book for filling in your world - This is another great addition to the Game Master series of books, is physically well-made, and its contents are pleasantly and expertly laid-out. It lives up to the quality I have come to expect from these (it’s the 7th book I’ve purchased from the series) and stands out even over the other random tables books I’ve purchased for not only its variety but for its depth of content. As an example, it contains a table for rolling (or selecting) songs being performed. But not only does it give a fun title, but a brief description of the song as well. This was perfect, shortly after receiving this book, when my players asked “what song is he singing?” along the way of turning a random NPC into an unintended major character. If you are a DM/GM and want some great ideas or options to help fill-in your settings or worlds, this book will not disappoint. Review: Incredibly helpful book! - I rarely buy things purely on impulse, but the "Astonishing Random Tables" title caught my eye. It looked fun, so into the cart it went. I'm pleased to say that it's full of creative ideas to make a campaign more fun. I run a game, and a problem I've had is that so many adventures seem like they just railroad the players through a linear path from the beginning to the end. Having a ready-made book full of everything from minor details to major side quests is incredibly helpful, because it keeps the adventure from seeming like all the other "whatever was in the book and what our same DM ad-libbed" sessions. I'm busy, I'm often tired by the time we get to game night, and the ideas in this book are really helpful. This is the best addition to my gaming library since my book of pre-made NPCs. As uncreative as that sounds, my players and I recently had a six-week side quest based around a half-page description of an NPC - and that's exactly the sort of thing that I expect to be able to do with "The Game Master's Book of Astonishing Random Tables."

The Ultimate Idea-Spark for Chaos-Loving GMs
This book is basically a creativity fuel tank disguised as a stack of random tables. Need an NPC motive, a weird location twist, or a plot complication right now? Roll once and boom—instant inspiration. It’s flexible, fast, and packed with enough strange prompts to keep campaigns fresh for months. Perfect for GMs who improv, prep lightly, or just enjoy letting the dice surprise everyone at the table.

Fun read and useful for unplanned moments
I picked up this book as I love random tables. The DM's toolbox has a lot that this book overlaps, but unlike that book, this one actually goes in to detail on the tables and the results are a lot less generic. That is both a good and a bad though... As things like "Chase complications" have 20 results that are all very specific... and if in an extended chase it will become "how many times have I almost hit a wagon and had a horse kick me?". Overall though lots of useful tables. I can foresee using it when my players throw a wrench in my plans and go off script. The book has ideas on how to use it for planning sessions too, but I think the off script part is where I will get the most use.

Great book to have
Plenty of tables, random encounters, and names to well stock a campaign or one shot adventure. Pressed for time? Roll the dice live and see where this takes you. (You're gonna need to be quick on the up tic to keep up) I've included a lot of these with my group and have not run out of ideas on how to use this book. It's priced well for what you get.

Chaos personified
This random table book has been a lifesaver at my table. Whenever I’m stuck on the fly—whether it’s naming an NPC, describing a tavern, or throwing in a weird twist—I just flip it open and instantly have ideas. The variety is fantastic: quirky encounters, flavorful loot, and fun prompts that keep players guessing. What I love most is how flexible it is. Even though it’s geared toward D&D, I can see it working with pretty much any TTRPG. Some of the results are hilarious, others are genuinely clever, and a few are downright wild (in the best way). It’s not the kind of book you read cover-to-cover, but it is the kind you’ll pull off the shelf every single session. For any DM who likes a little chaos and surprise in their game, this is an excellent pickup.
