Review: Uncomfortable, but worth reading - I really felt uncomfortable reading this book and it took me longer to read than it should, but I pushed through, the historical examples and psychological insights started clicking in unexpected ways. This book helped me understand how power dynamics play out in everything from my college study groups to my part-time job at the coffee shop, and I found myself using some of the more ethical principles like "Make your accomplishments seem effortless" to improve my leadership skills in group projects. Even though some parts felt manipulative, I appreciated how the author keeps it real about human nature and provides stories from history that show these laws in action - like the way Michelangelo played mind games with the Pope to get the Sistine Chapel done his way. To be honest, it sometimes feels like I'm reading a "How to Guide to be a Narcissist," but if you approach it with the right mindset, it's actually a powerful tool for understanding why people act the way they do and how to navigate social situations more effectively Review: Good - Interesting book with each law tells you stories from past and how certain individuals applied the law or didn’t

Very Original Content-Highly Recommended!
I found The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene to be a very original book full of great research. What sets this work apart is how the author draws on historical stories from cultures and eras spanning the entire globe, weaving them together into these 48 distinct laws of power. Greene doesn't just theorize—he illustrates each principle with vivid examples from figures like Louis XIV, Sun Tzu, Bismarck, and countless others, making abstract concepts of power dynamics feel tangible and real. I found it a great read cover to cover, as the narrative flow and storytelling keep you engaged throughout. But it's also proven to be an invaluable resource to return to again and again. The structure makes it easy to flip to a specific law when you need insight on a particular situation, whether in business, social dynamics, or understanding human nature more broadly. If you're looking for a compelling story for a presentation to get your audience hooked, this book is an absolute goldmine. Each law comes with multiple historical anecdotes that are not only fascinating but also demonstrate timeless patterns in how power operates. These stories stick with people in a way that dry statistics or abstract principles never could. Whether you're reading it for personal development, professional strategy, or simply as a student of history and human behavior, Greene has created something that rewards both deep study and casual browsing. 10/10.

Very powerful and relevant!!!
Very powerful book! Lots of historical stories and anecdotes. Made me reflect on my past jobs and experiences, and I started connecting the dots of where I went wrong. My tip would be as you read through this, keep a journal and reflect on your own experiences to date and make the connections to the laws. It will shape how I behave and present myself in the future. Sometimes difficult to read in parts due to the old text but just requires slowing down and patience. Very informative and useful book!

A timeless manual on influence, strategy, and survival
This book is a masterclass in understanding power dynamics — whether in business, politics, or personal relationships. Robert Greene distills centuries of historical strategy into 48 clear “laws,” each illustrated with real-world stories from figures like Napoleon, Machiavelli, and Sun Tzu. It’s not a book about morality — it’s about awareness. Some laws may feel manipulative or harsh, but they reflect how power often operates beneath the surface. If you read it with a critical eye, it can help you protect yourself from being manipulated and become more strategic in how you navigate the world. Well-written, engaging, and filled with insights that stick. Not for the faint-hearted, but essential for anyone interested in human behaviour and influence.

47 > 48
Would have preferred 47 rules, 48 rules is one too many. Also, live life without rules! Let’s get back to the old ways of living!! Bring back the stone age!!!

Every one of us secretly desire to hold Power. As human beings we always wish to have our way and expect other’s to follow us and holding power is the best means in having our way.It instills fear or awe in others, making most of the job easier, and the great feeling of wow! — as nothing can be more stronger or powerful .The 48 laws of Power by Robert Greene is all about gaining Power by various means and enjoying its fruits .The laws are defined by taking key points from the ancient past to that of the modern day world, where the laws mentioned are followed by various references to the people who attained power through different means viz fighting wars, ruling ruthlessly, conning successfully, leaving a mark of their own through painting, writing and so on.These references help to understand the laws of gaining power in different ways as well as act as a tip to the readers in guarding against falling prey to scams and tricks. The laws while dwelling deep in to the human nature, brings out various aspects of manipulation, selfishness, deceit, treachery, back stabbing, masking the real intent ,conning, tricking and many more things. These laws act as a tool in understanding the mind games being played in different situations at different places by different people. On hindsight when I look into my past,I personally felt the laws giving me the clarity, much to my satisfaction and perhaps may aid in my future decisions. The stories like that of Arnold and Slack (P158,L21) or Sheriff Richard’s and Lustig (the conman (P74,L9))are not only informative but much fun to read.and laugh. A book that increases your knowledge of power, subtle actions of the people around and their nuanced meaning behind it.Ultimately though the laws reflect individuals personal benefit and even show the ‘basic instincts’ , of humans in seeking power but also enrich the readers with knowledge of power I.e the power to see through the masked faces of others and act .A book that fills the reader’s with admiration and respect for the writer for the enormous amount of information and the profound meaning behind each law. A ‘must-read’, book to be read multiple times to understand the Power. and finally, quoting one of my favourite quote mentioned in the book (L19,pg-138) — “When you meet a swordsman.draw your sword.Do not recite poetry to one who is not a poet.

Initially I was not sure about the book. It provides tips on how to assume control and power. It almost felt like it was an instruction book to become a dictator or a cult leader. However, as I read more of the book, I realised that it was a very informative book on how authorities including presidents, prime ministers, religious leaders, politicians, cult leaders, and wealthy businessmen use these techniques to control and manipulate people. The author is telling you in what it feels like reversed psychology "watch out for these things because you might be under the attack". I recommend this book if you want to learn how the rules of power are used constructively and destructively.

I recommend reading 1 law per day, as there is A Lot to digest, and you need to absorb what your read before going to the next chapter.
