Really nice quality and thickness of fabric. Sizes says 3 to 6 - my daughter is a tall 3 and half year old and it's baggy and will fit better in another 6 months I think. The hat is very big and fits me more comfortably. I made a little head scarf out of hanky which stayed on all afternoon and looked cute on a girl!! The sword is thick enough it doesn't become floppy and loose its shape or fall to peices - which I was pleased about. The size hasn't stopped her wearing this outfit and if anything there is scope for growing into it. I would definiately reccommend and think out of all the pirate costumes I've seen this is a bit defferent and good quality.

This was purchased for by nearly 3 year old nephew for Christmas, he's very much into imaginative play. I've bought lots of Melissa and Doug products before, so assumed I would be getting good quality and fun items. It really is a lovely set, the packaging is lovely too, definitely gift ready. It comes with a polyester tunic with fleur-de-lis insignia and a “chain mail” hood and sleeves. A foam shield with fleur-de-lis insignia and a Velcro arm strap and a sturdy foam sword that’s durable enough to last, (but soft enough to not hurt when the little knight inevitably whacks his cousins with it.) So if your imaginative little one wishes to slay monsters or defend castles (or just swing a foam sword around) then this is the perfect present.

For the price this is amazing quality, well-made. Comes up big on my near-4-yr-old but should last for at least till he's 6 and he's got a little brother so I'll get lots of wear out of it. The patch is fabric and comfortable on, so even my fussy boy liked wearing it. The cutlass is foam and great for fighting without tears! Two things which would have given it 5 stars 1) There were no trousers with the outfit (I hacked up an old pair of grown-out trousers to give that jagged 'shipwrecked' effect) - wouldn't have minded paying a couple of quid extra to have those included though. 2) The hat is a bizarre shape and kept falling off my son's head. I ended up making two fine holes with a bradawl and threading/knotting thin black elastic thread through the brim on either side of his ears to make a 'strap' to keep it on. I noticed the other boy who had the same outfit at a recent party didn't wear his hat at all, probably because it would have kept falling off! Such a shame for such a nice hat for it not to get used because of this oversight. But it is remedied if you're a bit handy :) Overall though, a great quality buy that will last party after party (or lots of playdates!)

This is the second Mellisa and Doug costume that we have purchased, having been so impressed with the first. The first being the Knights costume. The quality of the costumes is very high and you do get what you pay for. They are so detailed with lots of layers of stitching with patches and emblems etc. They are also super easy to put on - just a line of velcro pads down the front, so the kids simply slide their arms in the sleeves like a coat! One thing that I will say is that they are quite warm costumes as the fabric is thicker than on cheap ones. I am eyeing up more in the range. This fits both my 2.5 year old and my 4.5 year old, who I don't think will grow out of it for a couple of years at least.

Wow, my boys, 4 1/2 & 2 1/2, love these outfits, they have barely taken them off since they arrived and I must say that they really do look very cute in them! The clothing part is extremely well made and of a generous size, the fabric is lovely and I am very impressed with the quality. The sword and shield are great too, the shield handle is adjustable and they seem pretty robust. Overall, we are very pleased with our purchases and will definately buy more Melissa and Doug outfits if they are as good as these!

Great gift. Bought for a friend and also my son. Great introduction to magic for 4-5years plus and great dressing up for younger kids too. Magic tricks are simple and effective. Good quality product. Also doubles up for greatest showman dress up which has been handy!! I think you could buy this for 3-6 year olds. Physically too big for a younger child and maybe too childish for an older child. Tricks included are very easy Wobbly wond Rabbit in hat Disappearing coin

costum came early, came in a box on a hanger. ordered this because the reviews for mike the knight helmet were not very good and when you look at price this isnt much more and you get a complete set. the product is wonderful, made so much better than anything you can buy in the shops. dont be put off by the fact that it doesnt have a proper helmet as the hood i think will do the job. not sure how long the sword will last but know my 4yr old daughter will love this and reconsie straight away what it is. definetly recommend this it is wonderful. it does say for 3-6 but not sure if it would fit a 6yr old.
