Worth the price, but I have one major annoyance

One of the flagship products from Logitech. Replaced a similar grade device 8 years old that did several hours service every working day so no gripes about the price. Both keyboard and mouse need charging more regularly than I expected but it charges using a micro-USB connector (as found on many new new phones such as HTC and Blackberry) so that phone charger you have on your desk might well do the job for you. On the plus side the position of the connector points have been carefully chosen so that if you have a long enough cable, you can continue to work while the device is charging.MOUSE: Simply wonderful if you are right handed and have size nine (large) hands. One of the nicest pointing devices I have ever used. Solid feel and works on the sliced-up A2 cutting-mat that I use as a desk pad.I used the Logitech software to disable most of the extra functionality of the mouse, right thumb clicks etc. I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to input devices and I don't want my mouse being too clever. Take time to understand the role of the little mechanical button just behind the scroll-wheel.KEYBOARD: If you use a keyboard a lot it will not take long to forget the price. I thought the keyboard lighting up was a bit 'tricksy' at first but now that I have got used to it, I have even appreciated it occasionally (middle-aged eyes...).There is one huge plus point to this keyboard. it has a CAPS LOCK light ! Which is good because this helps mitigate the one major annoyance I have with this keyboard which I concede, will probably pass right over the head of many users but it annoys me. You are entering a whinge zone...There is no single-action dedicated "Windows context-menu" key (the one that does the same as a mouse right-click).Firstly, I concede that this is probably one of the least used keys - ever. But if you use it, you want it. Now I imagine that most people who use this key are reasonably competent about using a keyboard and will be pleased to know the functionality is still there but you now have to press a two key combo (FN + Print Screen). This is a bit of a pain as I relied on that button to deal with my spelling! What I find galling is that the FN replaces the context-menu key...It is possible to make the context-menu the main function of the print-screen key but it mucks around with all the other F keys in the process (swaps them from standard F1 - F12 to launcher keys e.g. F2 = start email and you can only reprogram some, not all of the keys to do their F key action) and I use the standard F keys too much to put up with the inconvenience. I will just have to get better at spelling but it does show-up a limitation in the Logitech software with respect to custom mapping.Whinge over.CD-Eject Key: No (would have been nice but seems to be disappearing along with optical drives!).Calculator Key: Yes.Mute Key: Yes.

Good replacement keyboard and mouse combo

Just a few points worth mentioning on the MX800. I have been using a Logitech MX5500 for many years and found the wireless connection gave very few problems. Some of the reviews I read on the MX800 prior purchase seemed to indicate a major problem in wireless connection. However I still purchased it and found no major difference from my old set-up. If you download the three bits of software from the Logitech site for the MX800, unless you have a faulty unit, it should connect immediately - mine did. There was one problem, hence the four stars. When you push the USB charger lead into the mouse you have to tilt the plug up. If you try to push it in straight it will not go in! There is no mention of this in the instructions. I retuned my first combo to Amazon because I thought this was a faulty mouse! Amazon, as usual, responded very quickly with a replacement when I discovered this little quirk.Overall I am very pleased with this combo. The keyboard has a good feel to it and the back lighting is excellent once you have set it up to meet your preference. The mouse has even more functions that my old one. I find it very comfortable and the response is very good, again after you have adjusted it in the SetPoint settings program to meet personal preference.

This keyboard and mouse I find very good for the following reasons

I work as a software developer and have slight RSI (from typing so much). This keyboard and mouse I find very good for the following reasons:a) Solid and light touch action, so I can type without to much pressure required for the keys but yet feel confident about each key press. I find most keyboards lack this and feel to much like the £5 keyboards you get bundled with desktops. This keyboard does not feel like a stock keyboard at all.b) Keyboard fells similar to a laptop keyboard, so when I moved between laptop and desktop, the feel isn't to different. This is important for my touch typing, as if keyboards were different, then I'd be hitting the wrong keys when I'm moving from one to the other.c) Function keys are spaced away from main keys and a gap between each 4 - important for hitting shortcuts that include function keys while touch typing.d) Rechargeable battery using standard USB mini attachment. Means I don't have to have a separate power adapter or the need to have spare batteries lying around. I just plug into the same power connector I use for my phone, tab, mouse, camera etc.e) Mouse is nice size on the hand. What I feel is I don't think a bout it, which is great, after a few hours I just forgot about the shape of the mouse, if just worked. If a mouse was to small, or to bulky, then I'd notice. There are also other things with the keyboard others might like, such as the backlight, the mouse has some extra buttons, which are probably good, but just not features I care about.
