Stanley Tools 033897 FatMax Tape Measure 10m (Width 32mm)

First off this is a heavy duty tape measure and you will notice it as soon as you pick it up. It is not a nice little light weight item so if that's what your after you're probably better to look elsewhere. It is quite heavy compared to other tapes and it's bulky (8m version is anyway). Also the spring is quite strong so you have to feed the tape back into the case don't just let it rip back on it's own as you may hurt yourself or break it. I'm left handed and only use metric measurements. I often find using standard tape measures that I have to hold them awkwardly or backwards to get the metric measurement edge where I need it especially when working over head. This tape works perfectly as the measurement is in the middle of the tape with lines going to both sides so it works perfectly for left or right handed people. Also unlike a lot of other tape measures the scale shows the hundreds digit (cm's) at every mark. So for example it shows 168 cms or 275 cms etc. Some only show the hundreds at the metre marks so 100 at the 1m then just 68 at 168 cms and so on. This is my second as I lost the first one during a move. I waited a few weeks to see if it turned up but it still hasn't. The first one was dropped from ladders, down stairs out of windows and all sorts. It suffered a few nicks from all that abuse but it never broke despite its weight. They are quite expensive but I was lost having to use one of my spare tapes until I gave up searching and just ordered a new one. The only 2 problems I have ever had with these tapes are as follows: 1. The hook. It's a bit of a double edged sword. It's great to have such a massive hook as it grabs most things really securely. However it also gets caught up a lot as well. 2. If you drop it and it nicks through the chrome coating it leaves very sharp bits. You then have to cut them off and stick some clear tape over it to avoid cuts. Otherwise these are the best tape measures I have ever owned. Highly recommended.

Best tape I've used so far, great visibility on the measurements, good standout for one person operation and after a year of use it's so far much more durable than the Milwaukee and DeWalt ones I've had before.

Well, it seems this Fatmax is only metric, and doesn't have an imperial measurement scale on it, I suppose I should have read the description and not believed the review that said it had both metric and imperial measurements, obviously was a review from a different Stanley Fatmax tape and not the Fatmax Extreme, I think they call it review stacking, however, just as well I can read metric but other than that the tape seems fine, I just hope it lasts longer than the last one I bought on Amazon

Great tape measure and 5m is a lot lighter to clip on trousers all day. Protection at the end so doesn’t rust or scratch as easily as others and can extend out with ease

I've been using it every day for the past 2 months( i work in construction) and the tape is still in very good condition, usualy with other tapes that i had they stared to rust or break after 2 or 3 weeks but this one i think i'm gonna have it for more month to come. And also because we work in milimeters on our constructions because is all metric is making my life more easy.

Had this for less than 5 months, been used for diy so not even heavy usage. The tape has split and now for the bin. Absolute waste of money.

I bought this as the cheap one I'd bought years ago from a well known DIY store finally gave in and so glad I did. The mechanism on the old one was a bit cranky and it was generally OK and did the job but the tape often wouldn't go back in but this one is superb! Mechanism is super smooth and the whole thing is chunky and well made. All pros and no cons on this one

Metro di notevoli dimensioni, robusto nella struttura della carcassa, e robusto anche il nastro. Usato in cantiere per fare rilievi, si apprezza la notevole estensibilità del nastro: si possono misurare distanze che normalmente necessiterebbero di un altra persona per tenere l'altro capo dello strumento. Il peso si sente, ed anche le dimensioni sono notevoli, però risulta essere un ottimo strumento di lavoro.

Um es vorwegzunehmen, dieses Maßband hat meine hohen Ansprüche voll und ganz erfüllt. Aber warum? Die Verarbeitungsqualität ist auf sehr hohem Niveau. Nichts klappert und man hat rundum das Gefühl etwas "wertiges" in der Hand zu haben. Das Maßband selbst ist wirklich sehr breit und robust gegen Kratzer und ähnliches. Auch der Metallanschlag macht einen sehr soliden Eindruck. Eine kleine "Kante" sichert zuverlässig gegen Abrutschen und ermöglicht so das schnelle und bequeme Anlegen auch an etwas weiter entfernte Ziele. Die Arretierung mag für manche eventuell etwas schwergängig sein, hält dafür aber auch wirklich verdammt fest. Außerdem kommt natürlich noch die auf der Verpackung groß angepriesenen "4m Standout" hinzu. Auch wenn diese unter normalen Arbeitsbedingungen einerseits selten gebraucht werden, sind sie andererseits doch nur relativ schwer erreichbar. Wer es jedoch unbedingt darauf anlegen will, sein Maßband möglichst weit auszufahren, ohne das es abknickt, bekommt es problemlos auf praxistaugliche 3,5m hin - das aber ist wirklich imposant und lässt Männerherzen höher schlagen...anwesende Frauen werden höchstwarscheinlich unverständlich mit dem Kopf schütteln ;) Neben diesen Spielereien sei aber noch zuletzt auf die hervorragende Genauigkeit hingewiesen. Beim Auspacken bitte nicht erschrecken, denn der Anschlag hat ein in Messrichtung beabsichtigtes Spiel von einigen Millimetern und erweckt im ersten Moment Zweifel, erweist sich allerdings nach ersten Versuchen als sinnvoll und sehr präzise. Im angelegten Zustand und gespanntem Band ist daher millimetergenaues Messen sehr gut möglich. Aus eigenem Interesse habe ich diesbezüglich auch die Angabe "Genauigkeitsklasse II" überprüft und kann diese Werbeaussage absolut bestätigen. Ich hoffe, Sie konnten Sich nun einen genauen Eindruck über das Maßband verschaffen und sind beim Entscheidungsprozess etwas weitergekommen. Als letzter Hinweis noch der Vergleich zu den anderen verfügbaren Längen. Das 5 Meter Maßband ist nur etwas kleiner und auch der Gewichtsunterschied ist marginal. Der zusätzliche Nutzen auf 8m erschien für mich daher optimal. Das Maßband ist zwar ein "großes Teil" erfüllt seinen Zweck aber wie oben genannt hervorragend. Abraten würde ich Ihnen vom 10m Band, denn dieses ist wirklich sehr groß und hat mit Handlichkeit absolut nichts mehr zu tun. Auch für mich mit meinen großen Händen war damit kein angenehmes Messen mehr möglich. Die Stabila Maßbänder sind auch qualitativ sehr hochwertig und empfehle ich allen, die ihr Maßband in die Hosentasche stecken wollen. Das ist mit den Stanleys definitiv nicht möglich...aber dafür gibts ja den Gürtelclip! :) Viel Spaß beim Messen! ...habe ich noch etwas vergessen? Falls ja fragen Sie einfach!
