Incredibly easy to use and never fail
These fire lighters are great, really easy to use and providing you’ve built your fire correctly you only need one to get it going. We have two wood burning stoves (a Charnwood C5 and a Heta Aspire 45) in different rooms and have consistently used these in them. They burn for about 8-10 minutes, I normally place one just under the top layer of kindling so the flames ignites that layer as well as the one below. Very occasionally one might burn in such a way that it falls to the bottom, but it still gives off such a large flame it can continue to ignite the fire. One minor criticism is that they do vary in size and can shed some of their fibres, especially when brought in bulk as they are sold on weight not quantity - you can however be selective in terms of which size you use.

Clean, Good Value, Very nice to use.
Excellent product. Works every time. Very easy to light, they don't smell and are pleasant to look at - not synthetic and chemical in feel and appearance, like the normal white blocks. They don't make your hands smell when you pick them up. Use one per fire. Highly recommended.

Great value
very good firelighters without any odour. One per fire, reliable. This box was an excellent way of ordering and saved me about £6.00 over a similar quantity from other suppliers. not feasible to count them to check that there is definitely 500 but will have to trust supplier in that respect. Delivered quickly and all of packaging is recyclable. Will order again unless I find them cheaper elsewhere..

Great firelighters and great value
Work great and good value. Big box so no idea if it's 500 or not but we'll packed and look like will last a while. You only need 1 to light a fire and they light easily and burn well. Best value ones I've found so will be buying them again when they finally run out.

Good firelighters - Not so good this time!!
I have 3 wood burning stoves, an outdoor oven and a Kelly Kettle so these firelighters have a lot of differing use. They work well and rarely need more than one, They do not appear to have any smell. They are long and thin, a little different to some of the others on the market but makes them perfect for the Kelly Kettle because I cut them into 2 or 3 pieces - I Know this is against the idea of a Kelly Kettle but I do use dry branches/sticks once it is started and I have had good results. Highly recommended and better priced than some similar firelighters. Update from 2019 I bought another box, more expensive than before and having checked today (1/1/20) they have increased again by approximately £2!! I have reduced the 5 to 4 not only because of cost but the firelighters themselves are half the length. They still work reasonably well but sometimes I need 2. In theory as these are sold by weight there should be more but I am not sure. My box was delivered in VERY poor condition, several holes and badly creased - this probably down to the carriers. These are still a reasonable product but the previous advantage over other dearer items is now not so good.

They work first time, every time
These are just as good as Flamers and much cheaper. I'll buy them again. I can't vouch for the burn time: if you have a modern, fuel-efficient log burner and it takes more than two minutes to get a fire going with one of these firelighters, what are you burning? Wet socks? How to get a good fire burning first time, every time: lay some dry branches, about as thick as a man's thumb, from left to right in the log burner. On top of these branches, place one firelighter in the middle, near the front. Add plenty of dry kindling. A tangle of twigs from the garden, left to dry for six months or a year, will do fine; with one of these firelighters, you don't need commercial kindling. Now lay thicker branches (but not your thickest) facing from front to back, perpendicular to the ones on the floor of the log burner, touching one another, so that the flames from the firelighter lick up between two of them. Ensure that the wood covers the floor of the burner, so that the fire reaches critical mass quickly; you don't want to have to open the door to add more wood while the log burner is still too cool to burn off the smoke. Turn the air up to maximum. Light the firelighter. Close the door. As soon as the fire starts to catch, gradually turn down the air coming from the floor of the burner, leaving open the air coming from the top to ensure complete combustion; that maximises the heat you get from the wood and minimises pollution. The time to add your largest logs is when the log burner has reached its operating temperature and the initial load of fuel is mostly burnt. When the fire is reduced to burning embers at bedtime, turn the air supply right down to prevent a cold draught from coming into the house. Above all, age your wood well, invest in a cheap moisture meter, and never burn anything that's more than 20% moisture, or 15% if you can manage it.

Excellent firelighters. Similar to 'Flamers' but a bit longer ...
Excellent firelighters. Similar to 'Flamers' but a bit longer and thinner (and cheaper!). There's a slight but not unpleasant odour to them in box (I'd guess they're soaked in some form of vegetable oil, it's that sort of smell). They light quickly and burn hot; one is plenty to get a fire started. In my woodburner they're not quite reaching the claimed 8-10 minutes of burn time but that's more than offset by the high temperature that they burn at.
