Review: Empowering and educational - must-read for women involved in endurance sports and anyone who coaches them - Loving this book - reassuring, empowering and very educational. There's a great balance of diligently-referenced theory with easy-to-implement practical advice and examples. The way it's written is friendly and informal but without any dumbing-down. You'll learn why apparently proven training or nutritional methods don't work for everyone and how to adapt how you exercise and eat week to week but also at different points in your life. Periodisation of training has led to great improvements in what people can get from their sport, but periodised training is normally arranged in sometimes arbitrary blocks of time. I suppose this book is about periodising your periodisation - getting body and training cycles to peak and trough together - excited to properly put it into practise! Review: Learn how to work with your body - Great book explaining how women can best work with their bodies for maximum fitness gains rather than battling against them. Book clearly identifies different training and nutritional needs at different ages of adulthood. On a downside, it's not as easy to see tables on Kindle version, but this is a regular layout issue with Kindle format. There aren't any tables so it's not a major issue, the positives far outweigh this issue. Highly recommend ROAR for any woman wanting to get the most out of their training and improve their performance.

Lots of practical tips and advice
This book is easy to read and has lots of practical advice. If you push your body hard for your sport or your work, there is much in this book to help you. I found there to be a good balance of advice, with explanations as to why. Useful for women of all ages, especially of reproductive age, or approaching or going through menopause. Thank you!

This book is a revelation!
This book is a revelation!! As a woman and athlete I finally feel understood and I finally see the mistakes I have been doing all these years with my body and my training. I am so grateful I came across this book! In this book you'll find science and knowledge on human body, sport and nutrition and the differences between women and men. I totally recommend this book!

A must read for any woman who exercises!
Eye opening and life changing for me as a woman who has exercised all her life and now, in my 40s, find that I am putting on weight regardless of how much training I do. I made a few changes instantly and have lost a couple of pounds in the first week! It will take several rereads to garner every bit of useful information from the book, especially with regards to how to limit PMS!

Contradictory advice
I found a lot of the advice contained within the book and Dr Sims’ social media pages contradictory. In one of the chapters, she advises to go low carb for my particular body type, yet she advises on social media that low carb doesn’t work for women and that we require a high carb diet. I’ve questioned her on this and I’ve noticed others asking similar questions about different claims, but she ignores these questions and only responds to complimentary comments. She has more recently started responding to these comments by saying the book is a few years old and that we should pay for her course instead. If the book is out of date, then surely she needs to stop promoting and selling it since the out of date advice could impact our health? Secondly, unless you’re an athlete, you won’t find this book very useful as the advice tends to be very specific to high endurance athletes who require a lot of energy. I especially wouldn’t recommend this if you’re looking to lose weight. There is some good and interesting advice in there and it’s useful for any woman looking to understand her own body, which I wish was common knowledge. I very much appreciate her experience and I admire the fact that she has chosen to focus on women’s research when it has been neglected due to women being considered an ‘anomaly’. Overall, I find it difficult to recommend the book as I feel that the author isn’t confident in some of the claims, however it is an interesting read if you’re looking for some basic information. If you do buy the book, take everything with a pinch of salt, do some extra research, and do consider whether the advice is right for your goals and lifestyle.

At last information about nutrition and training base on research done on women!
Most of the books and on-line information one can access is based on studies done on men and it's a huge bonus to find that someone has actually researched into how women's bodies behave differently from mens. As the author. Dr Stacy Sims says 'women aren't small men so stop eating and training like one.' It's really helped me understand why things were happening that I had put down to me being weak in mind.

Great read for every female athlete. I do not compete in triathlons, or any long distance races of any kind. I do consider myself an athlete though, as I always played sports growing up and still at 33 I enjoy lifting weights, hike, backpack, and do Backcountry hunting, which is an extreme endurance sport in it's own right. I think every woman will take away at least one thing they can apply to their life and training. I personally found several as I have always gone by what the fitness industry recommends. After reading this I now why working out in heat or the week leading up to my cycle sucks and feels so hard, I know why I actually gained fat while intermittent fasting and doing fasted morning cardio, I know why I out hike my husband at high altitude, and why the Paleo diet felt great for a few months, then felt like crap (I knew I needed more carbs), plus much more. Those who gave a poor rating for the book not being great for people over 50 or experiencing menopause are silly. The book doesn't claim to be written for that audience only, plus the book covers some information on menopause. And the negative reviews about the birth control are inaccurate as well. The author recommended speaking to your doctor before making any changes and she does acknowledge some women need birth control for various health problems. I thought it was well written, everything is well explained, and it's very eye opening. I'm now no longer skipping breakfast and eat within 30 minutes of waking up, I've added more protein to my diet, I now do heavy lifting during my low hormone phase, and lighter weight, high rep functional training during my high phase and I'm seeing and feeling results. I think all women concerned about their health and anyone who even regularly exercise should read this. Even men who train women should read it.

One of the few people who focus more on women. But, the only problem is, all the food related advice shared is not applicable to me as an Indian. But, learnt a lot!

This made me improve my trainings a lot, feel and recover better and make gains much faster. I am not a professional in any way shape or form, but it seems the advice she gives has a ton of impact, including on beginners like me. Even if you don't exercise or are not looking to improve your exercise routine, this book is a very interesting read on how our bodies are made and work, and how it translates on our everyday lives, I think the book is just worth reading because of that alone. 100% recommend
