Review: Great - Great condition arrived quickly Review: Road to the Tenkaichi Budōkai! - Kame Sennin is willing to train Son Goku so he can get stronger! That is until, the Martial artist Kuririn arrives, hoping to be the Invincible Old Master’s top student! Will Son Goku and Kuririn follow the dirty old man’s difficult and odd training methods just in time for the Tenkaichi Budōkai? Find out! It seems like what everyone loves about this arc are the training montages, and to be honest, I’m probably one of them. It’s one of the freshest and funniest parts in the whole original series. It shows Goku and Kuririn digging out fields, giving people milk glasses while skipping and even more creative sequences! And I also forgot, Lunch is first shown in this comic! Lunch is a mysterious woman who changes personality and hair by sneezing. What really irks me is how she just doesn’t mind living with rando’s who don’t even know her. Other than that, she’s a pretty bland character when she’s not blonde. That’s probably why Toriyama barely put her in Z or other projects. This volume also shows Goku, Kuririn and more enter the Budōkai pretty easily due to their training. We also see the protagonists from the Pilaf arc like Oolong, Pu’ar, Bulma and Yamcha make appearances. Yamcha is also a contestant who made it in the tournament! We only see one match from the Strongest Under The Heavens tournament and it’s Kuririn fighting Bacterian. Gosh, I hate this character… Other than a few nitpicks, this is definitely my #4 favourite in the OG series. This book has a great mix of comedy and seriousness to the point where it’s almost obsessive to pick up, read, buy more, rinse and repeat.

Gud book :)
This is my most favourite manga series I read yet. I wanted to get into the dragon ball series so I decided to pick the first volume, and then the 2nd, and then 3rd. It’s too good. It never fails to make me smile with its jokes, very amazing story

MUTEN-ROSHI.. OR JACKI-CHUN
First of all, I love the Dragon Ball Universe with all of my heart. I have played all the games, watched all the movies, watched all the anime, read all the manga, and I still want more! :) I thought it would be great to re-buy all of the original DB manga; and check out the good old days of the Z fighters' early development - and life. And boy, was I shocked! The comedy, humor and action is out of this world. This volume is about the Budokai Tenkaichi, with Muten-Roshi facing off against Goku! :) Must purchase for die-hard Dragon Ball fans like myself..

Training Goku
Son Goku is training with Mr Super Perv, the old Turtle Master, Kame-Sen'in, to become the ultimate fighter. A new student, Kuririn, joins them as the group trains to enter the Tenka'ichi Budokai, the "Strongest Under the Heavens" fighting contest. Also, Lunch is introduced. Who's Lunch? This braindead woman who changes from Jekyll to Hyde when she sneezes and is essentially a bimbo. I wonder how long it took Akira Toriyama to think up the names of these characters - Lunch?! What, it took him a microsecond to come up with that? And why does she go along with everything like, oh being abducted and taken to an island and made to wear lingerie and cook - doesn't she have a life/character of her own? Kame-Sen'in's lechery is getting really annoying - I'm sure it's supposed to be funny but I kinda hate the character at this point. Other than that, it's another great volume in the series. The training sequences are pretty fun as Goku and Kuririn go from rivals to besties, and it pays off when they reach the Strongest Under the Heavens tournament and we see these two tiny kids beat the crap out of giant opponents! Plus we see them put on the classic orange outfits for the first time (though the comic is in black and white, you've probably see colour versions of the characters elsewhere). With Yamcha, Bulma, Pu'ar and Oolong showing up to watch, the series is really filling out with an interesting cast. And I love the craziness of this world where T-Rexs chase Goku and Kuririn on their milk rounds and houses come in capsules! The book ends just after the first fight of the tournament with Son Goku yet to spar, and probably win, so make sure you've got the next couple books to hand so you can jump right into the action without having to wait! Dragon Ball Vol 3 has a few bits here and there I didn't like with Kame-Sen'in and Lunch but it's still a fantastic book that fans of the series will devour in no time!

The beginning sorta felt like a filler arch in any anime but it came back well and ended well. See you in vol 4.
