Ideal phone for the little mount i use a mobile.

When i bought this it was no longer the latest model but when released it was the flagship model for Samsung and it shows as it has all of the features one could get at the time. Also since it was out-of-production this one for sale appears to have been designated for sale in the Middle East but it worked fine in Europe too. I had purchased it to upgrade from the Samsung S3 i previously had and was at first not totally at one with the S7 as the touchscreen seemed less sensitive than the S3 plus the newer Android version moved/hid functions/menus & changed terminologies (as most OS upgrades do for some reason). But in time i got used to it and found this phone to be very capable as i only retired it this year (2025) mainly due to the battery not lasting - which is pretty good it lasted for 6 years from purchase, and likely manufactured a couple of years before - and not being 5G compatible and wanting a better camera, and also wear of connection ports. But it's only when you come to replace something that you come to realise not only how good it was but also how the newest tech isn't always 'better'! When trying to match the features of the S7 (headphone jack, SD card, no "hole" in screen) with current models the only one that came close has been the Sony Xperia models, however this model along with Android 15 are missing key things such as Voice recorder and being able to do Panoramic photos without unlocking the phone or even in landscape orientation! Also new phones are a bit oversized. Things i like about the Samsung Galaxy S7: - Size: it fits and can be easily used & handled in one hand, especially texting, scrolling, taking quick photos, plus fits in most pockets and wireless charging cradles especially in older cars like late 2010's BMW. - Weight: for it's size maybe of average weight, but still so much lighter than modern phones of today. - Screen quality is great! Very clear and max res of WQHD 2560x1440 - many new phones only go FHD-1080! (when doing this review finding even more functionality on this device!) Also being 16:9 ratio means it's better suitable for more video content instead of leaving blank side borders. - Front auxiliary physical button - THIS was the reason i hunted it down and bought it out of production as the S3 had this feature - it was great to use to instantly wake the camera for quick photo with any hand, also perfect to exit apps or return to home where sometimes touchscreen buttons don't work or easily accidentality touched, whereas u have to PRESS this. - Micro SD card slot. - Nano size SIM card slot. - 3.5mm headphone jack. - Battery life was good (originally). - Never had a problem with 3G signal strength and WiFi was fine but didn't reach as far an my laptop. - LED indicator light for notifications when screen was off. - Upgraded to Android 8.0 which has a lot of functionality, able to navigate through menus & settings and good font. - Wireless charging! (which i only found by accident 3 years later!) - Design pleasing to look at & hold even with a case on - like the dark metallic blue colour. - Front glass & main frame are tough. - The single camera lens is centrally located of top of back of phone and once a case is fitted it doesn't protrude like some modern 'phones, and the image quality is very decent for a 12MP phone-size sensor and the software allows RAW images to be shot as well as manual functionality when shooting and image & video post-processing. - Rear LED when used for a torch was very bright with a good spread compared with other phones of the time. - Twin microphones. - Waterproof functionality. - Bluetooth worked fine with a multitude of devices. Never tried NFC. Things i didn't like so much: - Fragile glass back cracked-up easily and not sure when or why as i had case on it. - Front 'selfie' camera resolution was low and not great focus function (if any!). - Optical zoom function was desired. - Because of slightly rounded screen edges, even on this flatter non "Edge" version, a glass screen protector didn't work as it popped-off especially when fitting a case. However a plastic screen protector has worked just fine for years! - Screen was bright enough for most situations except full sunlight. - The single external speaker located at the bottom of the phone was often not loud enough. - MicroUSB charging port was compatible with many other devices at the time but not so much now and wear could be an issue (but is USB-C or iPhone things really any more resilient?). - Not 5G compatible. I know the S7 could do 4G but not sure if i got that one as the old SIM in mine is still 3G! - This one had 32GB of onboard storage space which was fairly limited even back then as it soon fills-up (my new Sony phone uses 32GB just on the bare-bones OS from new!!). I'm sure i'll think/find of other things later. I'd actually give it FOUR & A HALF stars as it's not "perfect" but actually i would say it's closer than one would think as i do actually think it to be PEAK smartphone in terms of functionality, usability & style.
