Q: Why are people buying these for long term use? Far cheaper to pay for a 3 month supply with a GP prescription

GPs will only prescribe this long term if you are diagnosed with chronic GERD. As esomeprazole almost completely stops your stomach acid production, this will have some pretty negative gastrointestinal side-effects if you just ignorantly pop them like antacids long-term. If you do not have GERD, these are only meant to be used to facilitate healing when there is physical damage that mustn't be exposed to more acid, such as an ulcer or oesophageal erosion.

Q: Are these the same as omeprazole

Hi, no these contain Esomeprazole which does the same as omeprazole. My daughter has a long term medical condition which requrires this particular medication and she was changed, by her doc from omeprazole to esomeprazole which does exactly the same as omeprazole. They worked well for me but be sure and only take the recommended dose. Cheers.
