Tear plate steel is a sheet with a ribbed structure made of non-alloyed steel S235JR. The material has a material number 1.0038. This steel is one of the hot-rolled construction steels and is a most commonly used material in the construction industry. The quality can be well welded and deformed and impresses with its very good strength. Checker plate steel is very durable and abrasion-resistant, but has no passive layer and is therefore not corrosion-resistant. To protect it from corrosion, another surface coating is required.

Due to its properties, steel checker plate can be used in many ways. As it is easy to drive, steel tear plate is often used as a support for ramps. Other uses of tear plate steel are as follows:
