Holes: With Connections

Ordered this for school use - just wanted a teachers copy. Great novel to study and read for teenagers with a range of themes applicable to their lives. Might be a bit awkward with the flashback narrative style but i found this kept the students on their toes and they had to keep using their brains to understand the plot and divide the past narrative and the present one.

Read this many years ago and was impressed with its ingenuity. Bought this copy for my husband to read. Aimed at older teenagers I think but perfectly suitable for adults.

Loved the book

Arrived prompt but not as described received the teachers version

Although essentially a children's book, I unashamedly enjoyed every sentence of this exquisitely crafted tale set in the desert in Texas. A boys detention centre has been built on the perimeter of a dried-up lake. The boy detainees rise at 04:30 and have to dig one five-foot-deep by five-foot-wide hole every day in the scorching sun. Stanley Yelnats, wrongly accused of stealing is the newest inmate and this is his story. The book also goes back 120 years to a time when the lake really was a lake and involves Stanley's great-grandfather and a dangerous outlaw called Kissing Kate Barlow. There is a real feelgood factor to this novel and I recommend this to every child up to the age of ninety.

Great book - my nine year old bookworm daughter loved it.

very good it zones out everything around you and you just want to read on I would recommend this book for 9+ as I said excellent read
