Q: Do you just stick these by the base of the bush? How long do they last?

Yes you will want to stick it near the base of the bush. They seemed to last about 4-6 weeks on my plants. And my roses have never done better.

Q: can it be used for rose of sharon

They are not quite the same type of plant. Jobes makes an all-purpose spike, which is what the rose of sharon is supposed to get. I wouldn't over fertilize either, since it will promote new growth, but not necessarily blooms. Now is a good time, early spring.

Q: Can this be applied with the initial Spring fertilizer timeline of roses, or should it be used separately (later)?

You can use in spring by itself . . .I would not recommend combining with additional fertilizer. The stakes are large and depending on the size of the roses, you use more than one for each bush.

Q: Do these work on knock out roses?

I feed my Knockouts 10 10 10 and they look fantastic. I use the Jobe's spikes on my hybrid roses and climbers. I feel sure the knockouts would also love them.
