For anyone seeking a simple, traditional beverage for gentle digestive support.
My Go-To Soothing "Tea" for Digestive Comfort (Diverticulitis-Friendly) I purchased McCabe Organic Coix Seed primarily to make a daily, soothing "tea," and it has become an essential part of managing my digestive wellness, especially during bouts of diverticulitis. My Simple Preparation Method: I take about 1/4 cup of the raw seeds, rinse them thoroughly, and then simmer them in 4-5 cups of filtered water for about 45 minutes to an hour. The result is a mild, slightly nutty, and incredibly gentle tea. I strain the seeds out (saving the soft seeds to add to soups or rice) and drink the liquid warm or at room temperature throughout the day. Why It Helps Me (with Diverticulitis): During flare-ups, staying hydrated with beverages that are non-irritating is crucial. This coix seed tea is perfectly smooth, contains no fibrous particles that could cause issues, and seems to have a naturally calming and anti-inflammatory effect on my digestive tract. It provides hydration that feels more substantial and soothing than plain water, helping to ease discomfort. In my remission phases, I feel it helps maintain a calmer digestive state overall. The organic quality from McCabe is vital to me—I know I’m getting a pure product without any unwanted chemicals. This tea has been a gentle, natural, and effective addition to my routine. It’s not a cure, but it is a wonderfully supportive tool. Highly recommended for anyone, like me, seeking a simple, traditional beverage for gentle digestive support.

Excellent Quality.
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Excellent quality. Some folks reference a musty/moldy smell with this/other brands. I was taught to always rinse and pick out the dark or black seeds. These are the ones that cause the off smell/taste. If removed, your dish will taste great.

Excellent health food, the brand is inconsistent in quality
I'm surprised other reviewers haven't talked about how beneficial these are as a health food. Absolutely amazing. I'm so glad I tried it. I will literally not skip this food for a day if I can help it! The first package I got from McCabe was "expired" by 4 years. It was still just fine. There was a very very faint smell of rancid oils. (If you eat granola bars or whole grain foods, you've probably eaten food with far more of this smell without noticing.) The seeds were perfectly healthy to eat. I tried and failed to sprout them. The second package I ordered after finishing the first is not expired, and they smell fresh. I might it might not try to sprout this new batch.... Will update here if any luck. Overall, I think that even if these sellers are not delivering consistent freshness, you should pursue coix seed in general. And to clarify, the worst of freshness I experienced was.... Not bad at all

Product stale
I used to be a Macabe’s customer and trusted their products, however, this Organic Jobs Tear grain made me very sick after ate it! I throw up and got very sick! I tried to return it, but not returnable! I called AMZ customer service rep and he gave me a credit for it! Thanks AMZ. The expiration date is printed as good till 2025, but the contents smells like mold! Too bad that I found this out after I ate it! I’m still in very sick condition and can’t consume nothing for a while except just water!

Very healthy
What some are saying it smells musty… sorry but that is the smell of raw seeds. Jobs Tears have a slight bitter taste. Taste just like they smell. I add to soups which is fine or eat like cereal and add cinnamon sugar ( monk fruit) and milk. For cooking I soak several hour in salt water, drain and rinse then put in my rice cooker. The health benefits far out way smell or taste. They chew like barley.
