These are great - and much safer than plugging with tire string type plugs
I had never used this type of patch/plug combination before - I have used tire string type plugs, which are quick and easy, but can leak, especially as the tire wears. I have also had them come out before. I have also used patches that install inside the tire. I have never had an issue with a patch inside the tire coming off. These combination patch/plugs are the only type of tire repair that meets the industry standard, and I feel much more confident in their safety. As with any patch, you must clean the silicone residue off the inside of the tire (I have found that brake parts cleaner works as well as the more expensive rubber prep cleaner). You also must properly scuff the surface (with the appropriate carbide buffing wheel) and use a good vulcanizing cement to adhere the patch. The actual installation of the patch/plug is very easy. After you ream the hole and clean and scuff the inside of the tire, just brush on the vulcanizing cement, allow it to dry, remove the protective cover on the patch and insert it through the hole. Then pull the plug until the patch is tight against the inside of the tire, use a tire repair roller tool and then apply a coat of inner liner sealer over the patch, cut off the extra length of the plug from the outside of the tire, and you're good to go.
