Q: Is it best to apply with roller or brush?

It was so long ago that i used this i think i used a brush it's quite thick, its good stuff though.

Q: What is the coverage?

We painted two coats onto a 6m x 5m x 2.5m room and still had a bit left over from one tub

Q: Is this product any good for strengthening slightly crumbly plaster? or is diluted pva better?

No! This is purely a primer for applying new plaster over previously skimmed walls/ceilings. You need to use a stabilising solution, there are many on the market and do a better job than thinned pva.

Q: Can I paint over this primer instead of plastering?

It is specifically for preparing a wall to be plastered. It's very gritty, painting over it would not look good.
