Phenomenal product!
I’m a die hard Witcher fan. I’m a role player. This is an incredible mixture that draws me into being a board gamer. The art quality is top notch. Even if you don’t get the miniatures- the core game is amazing quality. The game isn’t simple like a “drag it out for the kids and grandparents” so know that ahead of time. The complexity is what attracted me as a role player. As far as that goes- the rules are pretty easy to understand. The fun of tactically managing your deck is so much fun! The thrill of combat is where it’s at. Even dice poker is great fun. I won’t say this is a negative list but I will say a few things that should give new buyers a warning. 1) The board is pretty big. The space you need to keep all the stuff as you play makes the needed footprint even larger. 2) The linen finish to the cards makes them sorta hard to read in dim light. No candle light gaming. 3) Once you see the extra stuff, it’ll be hard to not keep buying. The miniatures are so much fun to paint. The metal coins are a MUST as the cardboard ones are cheap. The expansions are like a siren song… “buy more- buy more!!” If you’re new to board games of this price point- I get it- this is expensive and should be something to invest in, not whimsically throw money at. Get back what you put in.

Toss a half a coin to it, you'll be less disappointed
This "deluxe" edition is a solid game overall as long as it's understood that this doesn't really reflect the great strides made in board gaming of cinematic properties seen since. It's a pretty low tension, collect resources and "fight monsters" game. This deluxe set is only deluxe because it includes some figures and a couple modified components (that I find worse, not better). The game has you hopping place to place, boosting various tracks, and then you go into monster fight mode. The monster fight is admittedly more interesting than just dice chucking. The adventures are story cards, so once you know them, well... you know the story. The big drawback is that the game comes piece meal from Kickstarter with many more add-on packs, and only by getting the rest of the add-ons (some which aren't even available until next year) will you end up with a more feature rich game. For the price point, buy The Last Kingdom. Or Skyrim. Or Fallout. Those games at least try to imbue the sense of adventure and tension of the movies. This one's asleep at the wheel, but it drives pretty straight, so there you go...
