My favorite things about Granite Creek Convertible pants
These pants are noticeably superior to cheap zip-off pants from x-mart stores. After a weekend of fly-fishing and hiking, so far they are everything I'd hoped. My favorite things- Wide array of useful pockets including 'sub-pockets' with zippers for safekeeping of valuable pocket cargo.- The styling on these Granite Creek pants is so much better than the cheap zip-offs I've been wearing for years. Not that the bears care. I could actually wear these comfortably in town and feel somewhat normal. I like that when zipped off, these shorts end just above the knee cap so the shorts are easier to move in and look better. I didn't like the cheap versions hanging over my knees.- My wife said these look really good given what outdoor pants usually look like.- The fabric is just a bit sturdier than cheap zip-offs I've worn for years but at the same time they feel light and dry. They feel so much better and like they will last. - I'm 6'2" and a slim 180lbs and chose the 32-34. The waist is spot on, I don't like wearing belts on the mountain. The leg might be long but it feels and looks good around my boots. After a washing these did not shrink at all.- Somehow the price dropped a bit and I got a good deal on Amazon.com- The heal mud guard should add some durability to the seams down there.Cons: I had to sew on a new button on the waist after popping the the original pin-fastener version. I think my sewn-on version is more sturdy. These are worth some extra dough, they feel like they will last a long time. If something goes south, I'll post another update.

Perfection! Best Convertible Pants on the Market
I bought a few pairs of convertible pants to compare before a big trip. These were the best - no question. If you want convertible pants, get these - you will not be disappointed. The sizing was perfect - except for the length - see below:Pros:- Thicker, higher quality material- Better Quality design and workmanship - really excellent- Zippers, pockets everything very cleverly done; quality all aroundCons:- Tailors said the side zipper at the bottom made them very difficult to hem/shorten - insert sad face here.I absolutely loved these but i wasn't going to spend $50 to have them hemmed at the one tailor who would take the job. I really needed a 29" inseam and 30" was the shortest. And, the trip was coming up quickly. So had to return them - hoping one day they'll have more inseam choices in the future - if so, I'll buy these in heartbeat!!Bought the Colombia Silver Ridge Pants instead - they're fine; were easy and quick to shorten; cheaper. But, I would have preferred these Mountain Khakis - I have many pairs of MK pants and shorts - great products.

High quality convertible pant
I have gone on many trips into the wilderness, most notably the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and have found pants like these to be critical. They are lighter than denim, don't absorb water and subsequently dry quickly after getting wet. Furthermore, the ability to convert into shorts is very handy when canoeing because it allows the bottoms to dry after wet-footing it all day (portaging) without changing.I have always used "cheaper" pants from gander mountain and columbia and this was my first pair of Granite Creek. When I say "cheaper", I mean those pants were $40 on clearance/sale and regularly priced $60+. I have to say these pants are of a much higher quality. They are thicker and more rugged. You can tell that more thought was put into the design -- an example being that the zippers backing on the two pant legs are different colors so that when you are reattaching them it is easy to tell which is left and which is right.Overall, I love these pants and would not purchase the cheaper versions again.

Very thick for nylon pants
Was expecting these to be the typical thin nylon zip off pants like Columbia or REI sells. I was wrong. These are MUCH thicker. Fitment seems true to size. Initial impression is craftsmanship is good (no hanging strings, seams were all straight, etc). ONly negative is that the main pockets are far too shallow to safely store items during any activity. If one were to sit down with a knife in those pockets it would fall out in short order and risk loss. The zipper pocket on the right side is VERY deep. The main pockets should have followed that pattern to be useful.

Great pants, just need deeper pockets.
These are great pants. Comfortable, fast-drying, breathable, true to size. The only reason I give them four stars instead of five is that the front slash pockets are a too shallow, so one risks having items fall out. Of course, if one really doesn't want something to fall out, put it in one of the zippered or velcroed pockets, which are excellent. The convertible feature is very good when the weather is changeable.

As advertised!
I purchased these for a quick hiking trip in the Smokey's in October. I wasn't sure of the weather so I wanted something alittle heavier in weight yet comfortable in warmer weather. These pants fit the bill. They are hi quality and all the fits and finishes are as expected or higher than expected. The zip off pants and the zipper up bottom allowed for easy off.

Pants actually fit tall and thin!
It's very difficult to find pants that fit my 6'6" thin husband. These pants fit well and have color-coded zippers so you know which leg goes where. He said the shorts ride up a bit when he sits and he wishes the waist had elastic, which is why I didn't give them 5 stars. But, they zip/unzip fairly easily and are well made.

Awesome!
Love these pants! Great fit, comfortable, and they breath well for summer wearing in the humid southeast US. I love having the option to zip off the legs if I need to, and the overall design and build of these is great. The inseam/crotch area is a bit tight for me, but most pants are, so I can't really fault them for that reason. I will be buying more of these soon. I like them more than my usual Kuhl pants that cost sometimes twice as much as I paid for these.
