This Stoker chap is not half bad
I first read this book as a teen because I thought I were cool for reading the ultimate vampire book and whilst I did enjoy it my memories of the book was “it ain’t that scary it’s just somebody’s diary” (as a teen I probably would have misspelt it as somebodies dairy). So now that I am older, wiser and having better speeling it is time to re-read this book…also I have a copy of the really cool Penguin clothbound, so win win.The book is excellent, the writing is so easy to get into, you soon forget that you are reading an old one, Stoker has this stunning ability to build up the tension without you realising that you have moved to the edge of your seat and are holding you breath as a coffin lid is slowly being prised open. There were moments where you have to sit back and appreciate what a beautiful page of writing you have just read, the moment where the 3 lady vamps are approaching Jonathan was full of sexual tension, cracking stuff. Most of the time the book was easy to read but there were a few tough moments, usually when Van Helsing opened his mouth, that man did like to waffle on and Stoker did like to state a lot that Man was strong and Woman was pretty and weak and surprisingly clever (almost as much as a man), it did start to grate after a while, if it wasn’t for Mina then the dudes would have all been dead by page 200.My two favourite parts of this book were; Renfield’s story, he is always portrayed as a bit of a joke, light entertainment in the movies but his story is probably the most tragic in this book, the inner battle that he was having with his Master was written with a lot of care and his final scenes were moving, I now demand better representation for him from Hollywood. The best moment was the race at the end, three teams racing to catch Dracula, one by boat, one by horse and one by carriage (sounds like a classic Top Gear episode). The chapters jumped between the teams to show the progress, each one getter shorter as we approached our conclusion, again some incredible writing that feels way ahead of it’s time.So the older me has enjoyed this book hugely and laughs at younger me for not being scared, ya gotta appreciate the subtleties of horror little man!

A classic
What can I write that's going to be better than what I read? Nothing. So I'll stop here.

8/10
the book came with odd specks of white dots, as if a bit dirty -- and although it is barely visible it was something i focused on the first time i laid my eyes on it. otherwise it's a nice copy of a beautiful story

Good condition
Book was in generally good condition. Sadly the sticker on the back made a mark on the cover.
