A beautiful story of intergenerational love and forgiveness
As Grace nears her 90th birthday she wants to keep the celebrations to a minimum; having a wild swim in the sea and spending time with her granddaughter, Elin, and great granddaughter, Beca. There is one person missing from her celebrations that she would love more than anything to bring back into the family fold, her daughter, Alys. Is 30 years too long to heal the rift? This was the second book club choice for my work book club for this month and to be honest, it’s not a book I would have chosen for myself and I would have missed out on a real treat. This is essentially the story of 4 generations of women from the same family; Grace, Alys, Elin and Beca. The chapters change focus between the four of them so each gets their time to shine and the reader really gets to know each of the four women. The story isn’t told in a linear way, we go back in time in places to see how the characters have ended up in the positions they are in now. It’s a really effective way of telling the stories of all the women and worked really well. The characterisation is excellent. These four women had their own distinct personalities but you could also see the little similarities as would be expected with relatives. I also felt that you could see where some of the characters had influenced others. After spending her early childhood with a chaotic, alcoholic Mother, Elin is very rigid and controlled in her behaviours and relationships. I really enjoyed Jones’ writing style. I’m sure this is going to be a bit of an unpopular opinion but I am not a “Gavin and Stacey” fan so it wasn’t a given to me that I would enjoy this but it had a lovely easy reading flow to it. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but Jones tugs at the old heart strings at times and I did almost cry in public whilst reading today. This is definitely an occasion where I’m glad a book club pick has pushed me to pick up a book I probably would never have read otherwise because I would have missed out on a gem here.

Lovely story - an easy read
My first book by Ruth Jones. Beautifully written and and, at times, quite emotional. A little twist at the end that I wasn’t expecting.

A truly beautiful read.
I've never read a book more enjoyable ! The story intertwined from daughter to great granddaughter to granddaughter . I just couldn't put it down, desperate to find out what the next chapter held for these three women. I can definitely see how it was the Sunday Times bestseller. There was just enough written to get to know each woman before the writer went on to expand on another, so the reader was always kept up to speed. The ending was a work of are, no one could guess what it was! Truly brilliant.

Enjoyable Read
A most enjoyable read. I do like stories of family and inter generations. The Welsh culture aspect was fun too.

Love Untold
I have only given this book 3 stars, would have been 5 but for the amount of unnecessary bad language. Using the F word etc a few times would have not been so bad, but it was used in a church scene & then that became over the top & I'm not religious. It's getting to a point were there should be a rating on books, only if there's a lot of bad language. Sadly I won't be buying anymore of her novels, which is a shame as she's a very good storyteller.

Four Generation roller-coaster
What an absolute joy of a book to read, this is my first Ruth Jones book and I am definitely reading her other novels, I loved the concept of the 4 generations and how you followed them through their stories and you get flashbacks that explain certain situations throughout the book, very well written, I laughed, cried, gasped and many other emotions while reading it, couldn't put this book down, a fantastic read.

Although I have enjoyed all of her previous work this book outshines them all! I couldn’t put it down and now I have finished it I can’t read anything else, I just want the story to continue! If you like stories about real people, imperfect people, living real lives making real mistakes then you will enjoy this book. So easy to read yet so much depth and complexity. A story of four generations of women which comes full circle. Ruth Jones is now my favourite storyteller!

Sorry, I find the story telling bland to the extreme.

Very enjoyable and easy to read book, I especially enjoyed the use of the Welsh and French references. And the challenges they afforded me.
