It is closely aligned with Scarborough’s Reading Rope and addresses each component, in addition to making several recommendations based on more current research.I appreciate that this book starts off by addressing constrained and unconstrained skills and addresses the 7 most effective comprehension strategies right off the bat.There are guided questions through each chapter, providing teachers with an opportunity to reflect on their practices, as well as opportunities for pre service teachers to reflect upon future practice.This is a solid resource for teachers looking to shift away from balanced literacy and provide instruction based on the science of reading research. It would also make an excellent textbook for pre service teachers.

Love this book. Easy to read. Easy to use. Can go from reading to implementing in one day. Every classroom teacher needs to have, read, and use this book.

This is just balanced literacy lite. Quoting 4 Blocks routines, pushing oral only phonemic awareness, an entire 2 page spread full of Marie Clay print concepts?Disappointed. Leaving this kind of stuff in the text to appease people who will see it and think what they’re doing is fine.I like the Blevins tips and excerpts.
