Fun Trick-Taking Game
Beth Sobel is one of my favorite board game artists. She has does a fantastic job once again with the art for this game. The game is a fun take on truck-taking. Nice quality cards. The game is easy to learn and provides some fun strategy. Quick and easy game. Travels very nicely. The box lid is a bit loose so you may want to rubber band it or put it in a ziploc bag when traveling. That is How Lou Sees It.

Fantastic game - bring it to parties!
Great card game that plays up to 6 well. It is the same game as Texas Showdown, just skinned for sailing.

Use alternative rules
This game is great. I decided to research and find the rules online as it is easier for me to read. I realized the rules in the box aren’t as extensive. I played the game the way the original game maker intended. I used the variant and never played with the rules in the box. I totally enjoyed the game. It is a neat take on trick taking where the lead suit can change. Google the rules so you can see the variants. There are two if I recall correctly.

Hearts... with crazy twists
First, the game has two sets of rules. I have only played the version favored by the game designer. I have not tried the other rules. If you love Hearts (or any trick taking game) then you will like Sea of Strife. At first, the game feels like a standard trick taking game, and like Hearts, the goal is NOT to take tricks. But, it quickly becomes much less predictable, because (a) players can follow any played suit, so the lead card doesn't always dictate the winner/loser and (b) playing the highest card in a suit negates the suit (so you could play the highest card, but it isn't counted if the suit is negated). So, you will often play what you think is a "safe" card only to have everything change and your safe card ends up taking the trick. And, towards the end of the hand, as people are void in more and more suits (there are 8 suits in the game) tricks can get very crazy. Knowing how to play Hearts will help. For example, remembering what has been played will help with your play (e.g. remembering which suit has had their high card played) and it is possible to win by clever play, and not just by having the best cards. - Edit. Still an awesome game, but knocking off a star because the "Face Cards" (the highest card in each suit) is only subtlety different from the other cards. Given the importance of the Face Cards to playing the game, it is too easy to miss when the Face Cards are played. It would be nice if there was a clearer sign a card is the Face Cards beyond the color of the number/suit being reversed.

A solid anti trick taking game that is easy to learn
A quick, easy to learn trick taking game. This is a common choice for a low key trick taking game that has a little take that element to it. Sometimes the best time of the game is watching on player struggle to trying to figure out how not to take the game.

Trick taking at its finest
Fun take on the trick taking formula which keeps you guessing on the winner until the last card. Card quality was good and it comes in a nice, small form factor box so you can take it anywhere.

I played this at my local boardgame meet and I had to have it. Was only available on Amazon for the actual price. Used copies were more expensive and also harder to find. Worth it. East to teach and play.

This is a very simple game and is fun. Takes some thinking but results are different each time.
