I wanted to like this more, but there are a few flaws that keep it from being great. First, I'll start with what it gets right - the palm style tamper is easier on your wrist overall when pressing down to tamp your puck. If you're inexperienced with a regular tamper, a self-leveling palm tamper will probably get you a more consistent tamp quicker than learning on your own.Now the bad stuff - my tamper arrived slightly damaged. The end of the tamper was chipped.Next, there is a slight gap that leaves a bit of untamped espresso around the edges of your filter basket. My precision tampers are probably 58.4mm, and this one is probably 58mm, which leaves a ring of untamped coffee.Although it is self leveling, it is not self centering, which means that ring of untamped coffee will often be towards one edge of your filter basket.I pulled a few shots of coffee using this tamper alone, and it is ok, probably about as good and consistent as a normal 58mm non-precision tamper. I do have over 8 years of coffee experience both at home and at cafes though, and I can work a regular tamper very consistently, so your mileage may vary.All things considered, the price, the overall quality, and the user experience, I would say it's an okay tamper for a beginner or intermediate coffee person, but an serious enthusiast may not be well pleased with their results.
