I am impressed with the American Lock 1100 series. If you want a good quality lock for protecting your stuff, this lock makes a good choice. No lock is perfect and this lock can be defeated but that is true of ALL padlocks. The goal of this a lock like this is to encourage the bad guys to move on to easier targets or, failing that, slow down the bad guys and thus increase the odds that someone will notice the crime in progress. In my opinion, this lock succeeds in this regard.

These are very good quality locks they hold up well to the elements. They have a few security pins that makes it take longer to pick if you are a beginner. The shackle is fairly hard and cant be cut easily with small bolt cutters. A angle grinder will buzz right through it though.

American makes great locks, the 1100 series is a testament to that. Cheap price, great materials, full of security screws that making picking difficult (although I managed to get this one open in about 5 minutes since the bidding wasn't great, but that's not common), and it's rekeyable.

These are great locks for lockpicking practice! They're full of spools and serrated pins, and give awesome feedback like "good job" and "you got this buddy." Really good value for people who want to learn lockpicking. American locks specifically are just super fun to pick in my opinion. I have three of them and they're definitely tricksters, in a way where you can respect the design and manufacturing quality. As far as their intended purpose, they're definitely a tougher pick than competitively priced master locks and the build quality overall feels way more refined against others at the same price point. It'll keep amateur pickers out for sure, or at least keep them in a compromising position long enough that they might get caught. The locks won't stand up to forced entry against somebody with the right tools, but they'll keep people honest. Overall, great value if you're a weirdo like me that buys locks just to pick them.

After spending hours researching locks, their vulnerabilities, and other factors while picking a padlock out for my college dorm room, I ultimately decided upon this padlock. My goal was to find a padlock that would take some skill to pick, and most importantly have no major flaw like some Master Locks. It's held up to my daily usage with it. For the price, this is a great padlock and I recommend it for indoor applications, this will work outdoors but I'd recommend a more secure padlock for that.

I needed a heavy duty locks for my pelican case and didn’t want to buy flimsy cable locks with a lot of play. Also I didn’t want a solid one with a lot of “play.” Did my home work and settled on American’s lock. Am quite happy. You won’t be able to rotate the lock to get easy key access but you can still insert key from bottom (I.e you won’t be able to see the key enter unless you elevate the case). This is actually good for security. Will pony up for a tsa lock when the time comes but until then, things look secure.

Bought this for my man as a gift so ge could get better as locksmithing, and it's bested him thus far. I consider him a pretty good lockpick, and he hasn't cracked this one yet. It's been 7 months, so safe to say your valuables would be in good hands if this was the lock!

Well made lock

I originally bought this for lock-picking practice. In that regard it's been a fun lock. Would I recommend it as an actual padlock? Yes, with some caveats. It's built well enough, and the shackle is a good size for going around things like chain links, posts or other items. However, it's not a lock for securing "high value" items, but for locking your stationery cupboard or tagging out equipment that you want to stop people accidentally using, it's more than good.

Does what it is intended to do. Good product!
