Very Nice Product...it lives up to its promise
OK, first I must say after reading all the reviews of several DVD recorder/tuners, I was impressed mostly by the Toshiba model. Now that I have owned it for about 2 months, I can safely say this product definitely lives up to its reputation. I am very happy with its performance thus far.I originally got the recorder to transfer all my VHS home movies to DVD. VHS tapes have [at best] about a 20-25 yr life span IF you use them very infrequently. If you use them frequently, then you are lucky to get 10-15 years out of them. And it they are subjected to heat, humidity, then they go even faster. With a DVD on the other hand, you lose NO quality no matter how many times you play it over and over. Just dont scratch them!!!The recorder transfers the VHS to DVD very easily and is user friendly for anyone IMHO. The only thing I noticed is that you cannot pause the DVD recording when using the VHS to DVD transfer. But, you can pause the DVD recorder when using the tuner. Also, if you concerned the DVDs you make with the Toshiba will not work in another DVD players, you can relax. I tried the DVDs the Toshiba made in 4 other DVD players and all players played it just fine. Also, every DVD format I could find work perfectly in the Toshiba...DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RW...all work just fine. I was recording a movie with the recorder and about 10 seconds into the recording, a box popped up and said...DISC ERROR. I tried several times and thought the recorder was the problem. But I tried recording another VHS movie tape and it did just fine. Apparently, some movies are copyrighted, so you cannot record them. Also, another good feature: You can delete titles that you dont want. So if you mess up, you can still salvage the disc if you choose to do so. Only thing is that you cannot use the disc space that you delete (on the DVD-R, DVD+R formats). But, you can reuse the space on the DVD-RW, DVD+RW DVD formats. All in all, the only drawback is not being able to pause the DVD recorder when transferring VHS tapes. But, if you use the DVD+RW format, you can delete portions of the recorder AFTER you have recorded what you want. Then you can go back and manually delete. If you want a good performing DVD recorder, this product definitely lives up to its reputation and name!!

Spoke too soon!!
Seller gives quick response and my item works like brand new. Remote control functioned like it should and unit VHS and DVD were quiet while operating. I recommend this seller. Well after using it for 4 hrs the dvd locked up and door wouldn’t open , this was the second unit I tried. After a period of trying I finally got my dvd out and returned the second unit but have not received refund to my charge card.

Great DVD editing features
I bought this unit in August 2010. I was looking for a good DVR with a digital tuner so I could time record OTA programs and time shift my viewing and fast forward through the commercials. At the time of my purchase, there were very few units on the market that have a digital tuner and now they are virtually nonexistent (It seems the industry is trying to force everyone into TIVO). Toshiba made two models with digital tuners. One was a DVR only unit (model DVR570) and the other was a combo DVR/VCR unit (model DVR670). Both these models are no longer listed on Toshiba's web site, so it appears they are no longer being made. I must be one of the fortunate few to have a good working unit after reading the bad reviews from other owners.I really appreciate the DVD editing capabilities of unit. I mostly use the DVR to record OTA TV programs on DVD+RW disks. I then can edit title names and after the disk is finalized a menu list is created. I playback the finalized disk on my Sony DVD player. After viewing all the programs on the disk I can reuse the disk again after formatting it in my Toshiba DVR. For programs I want to permanently keep, I will initially record them on DVD-RW disks and edit them in the playlist of the disk. The playlist will allow you to delete scenes, divide titles, combine titles, and create chapter marks. After the disk is edited and finalized, I will play it back in my Sony DVD player while recording it permanently on a DVD+R disk in my Toshiba unit.I have recently started to transfer my VHS tapes to DVD by first dubbing them to a DVD-RW disk, then edit the disk; finalize it and finally copy it to a permanent disk by playing it back on my Sony DVD player while recording it on DVD+R disk in my Toshiba unit. I have recorded almost 50 disks by this method. I just purchased a DVD duplicator, but haven't tried to use it yet. I hopeful the Disk duplicator will speed up the process. The one disappointmentof this unit is the poorly designed remote. The buttons are small and have grey labeling on black which is very difficult to read except in strong light. I have programmed my Logitech Harmony remote with most of the functions of this unit to get around that problem. Finally, I did experience a couple of problems with this unit. Sometimes I would get a disk error notice. This can usually be resolved by ejecting the disk and reloading it. Another problem I encountered was my timer programs did not record onto the disk. The good news is I have discovered a quick fix to resolve the problem and it may work with other problems that other reviews have stated. As with any electronic unit that uses microprocessor technology you occasionally have to reboot the system much like a computer. With this unit just follow the directions below. I have had to do this twice since I own this unit and it worked both times. This action will clear all the timer programming information and user settings.1. Unplug the AC cord for about 5 minutes.2. After plugging it back in, turn on the unit.3. Using the remote push the "SETUP" button the "GENERAL SETTING" screen should appear.4. Use the UP/DOWN navigation buttons on the remote and scroll down to the "RESET ALL" menu item.5. Push the "ENTER" button on the remote.
