Good cleansing agent for coily curly girls
So I have been on the hunt for a no sulfate cream cleanser after my beloved hair rules no suds cleansing cream is no longer going to be sold. I am extremely upset about that because I love this stuff. Dickey has been telling us for years about how suds and lather are not the best for our hair. Also was trying to see if anyone with textured hair uses this product because I only see lots of wavy and loose curly girls using this. Really none with my hair type. Anyway I had seen and heard about Hairstory through the internet but along with not seeing anyone with real textured hair using this product and the price being a turn off to me I had never thought about using it but now I have decided to give it a try because of my hair rules product no longer being available and I found one chick with texture raving about this product. I came to Amazon to see if I could get it fast so I could try it out before making a purchase off of their site. Amazon delivered quickly. I must say upon the first time using it I am impressed. I love how it cleanses without stripping my hair. I have coily, dry hair and it needs hydration and moisturization on a weekly basis. This hair type also gets very tangled if it dries out. This cleanser is like a conditioner so I just rubbed it between my hands and applied. After rinsing I did an instant conditioner to give extra hydration and my hair was easy to detangle. I applied my gel for my wash and go and my hair was soft to the touch. Upon using the second time I have experienced the same softness with detangling. I have placed an order from their site now with the small 10% coupon they give you if you sign up for email notifications. The price is outrageous to me but what can one do if you want to use this product. That little 8 oz. bag hopefully will get me 8 to 10 uses. I ordered two 20. Oz bags with two coupons I had. Bought the price down a little. This would be the o my way I will buy , if they have a sale or something. I laughed at how one of the reps explains on their instagram about why the price is so high and how in actuality you are saving money. Anyway not going to complain about it cause they are not coming down on the price and again if you like you have to pay.

It's Magic for me, so I'd say worth a try!
This is a long review. I'm smitten with this product. I have very straight, fine hair and some scalp issue (tangent: not sure what it is, but it's nearly constantly itchy with tender red patches, but no dandruff, doesn't seem to change depending on climate, been struggling with it for 4 or 5 years). Dermatologist once prescribed me some topical steriods to "see if it helps," which means he didn't know/didn't care what the issue actually is (tangent: crappy health insurance), which did nothing to help, along side the other countless home treatments and products I've tried over time. I recently fell in love with the @jayne_edosalon IG account, and she's constantly singing Hair Story's praises. I don't typically spend a ton on hair care products, but I got a wild hair (pun intended) and ordered the Pre Wash, New Wash, and Hair Scrubber set and was excited to try. So first, the pre wash, which has a hydrogen peroxide smell to it. Used scrubber to get it in there good and it felt great, like a little massager. Didn't know what I was missing there. Left that on 3 or 4 minutes as directed, then rinsed for the New Wash. The smell sold me. It's giving the rosemary mint Aveda shampoo I fell in love with at the salon back in the early 90s, but with some rosiness, but not like an overwhelming amount. Very subtle. I saw a post that recommended the amount of shampoo and conditioner you typically use in one wash and combining those for each new wash, so I did that. It felt like a lot; borderline wasteful. Used the scrubber, rinsed thoroughly. The same post said you'll notice "new movement" in your hair, and I honestly could see and feel it even before it dried. I towel-dried which is what I usually do before bed, brushed it and had no tangles, and scrunched it into shape - I'm trying to rock a toned-down shag so I shaped my bangs, tried to get some natural wave into the length just for some bounce, which I struggle to acheive, and combed my cowlick how I *dream* it will lay, but it never does. The lingering scent and gentle wake of the head massage action lulled me to sleep. In the morning, my hair was like PERFECTLY how I'd styled it the night before. My bangs rocked, my cowlick was nearly undetectable, my ends had shape. My hair was glistening and almost WISPY instead of being stuck together and heavy. When I use my fingers to zhuzh it up at the roots, it actually worked, not a usual thing for me! My scalp continued to feel itchy throughout the day, but it was more often a phantom itch, like a habit of reaching up to scratch and then pleasantly realizing it's not actually that itchy. And when I did scratch, my scalp was noticeably less sensitive so it didn't hurt. I really feel like this stuff was made for me. I'm stoked to try more products, but the ONLY thing I'm not stoked on is the price. So I'd give 4.75-4.9 stars if I could. I don't see my bottle of New Wash or Pre Wash lasting very long. But it could just be the price I'm willing to pay.

Ridiculous Price for this Product!!!
Not to brag, but I have AMAZING hair! It’s 100% my best asset (I lucked out with phenomenal hair genes). It’s long, thick, air dries to beachy waves, blow dries straight or holds a kinky curl forever if I tell it to. So this product’s claims had me intrigued. I already only wash my hair every 4 days and don’t mind no suds. But the first time I used this, it took me 19 pumps to evenly coat my hair! At the insanely ridiculous price of $40 for 8 oz (8 oz is nothing), those with long, thick or coarse hair will burn through this product so quickly. Don’t get me wrong, I will drop money on my hair - IF A PRODUCT WORKS - but this product is not worth it! After washing, I let my hair air dry. The look, the feel everything is the same as it is with my normal shampoo and conditioner. So basically I'd rather buy my salon shampoo and conditioner (organic and also SLS free) at $40 for 67.6 oz that lasts months. Of course I will use up this bottle and see if the results change whatsoever but so far I feel I've just been bamboozled really well by New Wash's marketing. I’m really curious to see allll the R&D that went in to formulate this product, especially when the SLS has been omitted (cost savings to the company right there). It's not like they're inventing the wheel with sulfate free shampoo. But they certainly are reaping all the profits as they've cut out regional distributors, bulk sales to salon owners, box retailers and e-tailers. I feel if they truly cared about the environment (like Toms, for example) and wanted to make a difference in the hair industry (e.g. like Aveda), they should get in touch with reality and bring that price point down.

Pleasantly surprised!
I was very much on the fence about purchasing this product. I have very fine, color treated, platinum blonde hair, a few inches past my shoulders, & unfortunately not much of it. Very frequently well reviewed shampoos have left my hair feeling incredibly greasy, weighed down, and dull. With all the one star reviews I thought this might be the situation, except so many five star reviews had me very conflicted! I decided to go for it. The past couple of months I worked on training my hair to go longer between washes, I was alternating between pravana's purple shampoo 1x a week and another random other shampoo for my second weekly wash trying to find something decent. I wash my hair on Sunday and try to make it to Thursday before washing it again. Typically by Wednesday my hair feels kinda gross and by Thursday I need to wear it up in a ponytail. My hair also seems to kinda feel thick and gunky as the week wears on, perhaps the combination of my hairs oils & the build up of daily dry shampoo. I've used New Wash a few times now and each time it takes 2 pumps to fully coat my hair. I am honestly less concerned about coating the ends because I've read that the roots should be the primary focus and while rinsing the ends will get an adequate amount of product. I did not have any problem using the brush to come through my hair when wet. I also found that it rinsed out relatively easy. The smell is not as sickenly sweet as others suggested but yes, there is a scent, yes, it smells artificial. I always let my air dry and the results are not like omfg amazing or anything. I actually think my hair might look slightly better and fuller after the pravana shampoo HOWEVER what I will say is that my ends appear SO much healthier now, before I thought I was going to have cut several inches off now they appear tame and not frazzled. Also, my hair continues to look clean as the week wears on. I think I could probably go even 5 or 6 days between washes now. This for me is the real advantage, with other shampoos my hair might look good on day 1 and maaaaybe day 2 but by 3 and 4 its awful. New Wash has provided me with 4 full days of clean, presentable hair. I do use dry shampoo each day & do that more for volume than I do due to oils. My hair color remains essentially unchanged. My goal is to wash my hair less frequently and with less harsh shampoos in order to 1) maintain hair color and 2) increase health of hair to help grow my hair longer. I will update this review in a month or so to see how it continues.

Amazing product horrible package design
I have been using this product for 6 months now. I am familiar with the CO method of cleaning your hair and use to use Wen products. Until that was starting to cause some scalp issues. I was hesitant to try another type but I had seen so many good reviews that I thought i would give it a. shot. There is definitely a learning curve to using this. And you have to really rinse your hair after. I mean more then you think! If you don't your hair will end up greasy. But used properly its amazing! Now, you also need to use a shampoo at least once a week to remove any buildup. And you can follow with the New Wash after and then use a mask too. As for my lower rating,, it is not of the product itself but for the packaging. The new bottle design is the worst! First, unlike the older packaging you are getting less product. If you open the top of the container. you will see how small the cylinder is inside that holds the product! Second , because of the design issues it leads to not only broken bottles that arrive from Amazon but you will not get all the product out towards the end! I could tell there was more left in mine, and being as expensive as it is I wanted to get my monies worth! So I took it apart and flipped the opening upside down so the rest could come out. There was at least 25% left! Please re-do this package design because its really unfair t get cheated out of that much product! Other then that this product is amazing!

Great product!
I rarely write reviews and never include photos but I had to for this product. I was skeptical about the idea of co-wash shampoo. But since menopause I have been fighting a war with my hair. I workout daily and feel I have to wash my hair. Rinsing isn’t enough. My hair is either dry and unmanageable or limp. Today I tried this and I love it. It feels so cool and refreshing on the scalp. I love the scalp massager. It rinses well and my hair felt perfectly clean and conditioned. I styled my hair using my usual products - a smoothing serum and a bit of root lifter. My hair has body and shine. It feels soft and manageable and no flyaways in my face! It’s a bit pricey but it was worth it! I highly recommend.

This cleanser is magic.
I love this. For years I had been sad that my once super curly hair was going straight. I was told by stylist after stylist that it was just part of aging. Your hair gets dry and this happens to “mature hair”. I’m in my mid-ish 40s. 🙄 I had a new stylist use this on my hair and wow! I bought some and within a couple of weeks my curl was back. I have been using this for a little over a year. Now to address some of the issues I see listed: First off, it won’t make your hair fall out. That whole thing has been completely disproved by science. The worst that will happen is your hair will be greasy if you don’t rinse properly. Rinsing properly is a must (the directions for running your hands over it like a squeegee while rinsing aren’t there for show). Second, you need to make sure your hair is sopping wet. The cleanser is very slippery and much easier to use when it’s activated with the water. I used to cut it with distilled water until I realized the wet hair was the key and started to use much less per wash. Also the finger-tip scalp massage is important to get the cleanser all the way down and make sure everything gets clean. If you have never used anything like this, or are used to washing your hair every day, you will experience a transition as your scalp won’t know to stop producing so much oil at once. It’s easier for people with short curly hair to go through this transition. I know. Just do it. I use this probably once a week, with just wetting and conditioning between. If there is product residue from a week of styling, I may use a gentle sulfate free cleanser the wash before this one. It’s amazing stuff, but doesn’t always cut through the goop that builds up from curly girl styling products. I can 100% see a difference when I run out of this. My hair starts to go straight and sticks out like straw rather than falling into soft ringlets like it usually does. I just used it for the first time since running out a month ago. I can’t stop touching my hair and playing with all the curls that showed up just from scrunching with a curl creme. I am a generic kind of girl. I don’t need fancy. But this, l’occitane hand cream, and... that’s it. That may be all I require for high end anything. I dislike being without either of these things!
