What materials are the ear cushions made of? Are both pairs the same?

I certainly hope they have the velour that you swap on. I love the velour. Yes, for just a few weeks they hurt while breaking in, but only for a very short time when they are brand new. They have a break-in period, so your ears hurt if you have them on for hours when they are new. And then they mould to your ears, and they are the MOST comfortable. For YEARS of heavy, heavy wear. I bought mine in 2011. It is now 2017. And I have accidentally: sat on them, stepped on them, got them stuck in the metal parts of a recliner chair! They have been accidentally crushed under heavy books, sweat-soaked during exercise, and almost anything else you can probably imagine. Almost every day something dire would happen because I used them for hours and hours and hours. And 6 years is a very long time!! I may get the protective case, because I would have gotten more years from them! These are the best and most durable, and that's not just my opinion. And there is no phony bass. If you want to change that, there are easy ways to get add-on bass. The mid-range is beyond awesome. Anyone who lives and works with music should have a pair of these. And if you treat them more kindly than I did, they will outlive your new puppy! They are STRONG. In every way.
