Great level for my 5 year old, loves it and can read largely independently

This is much smaller than I anticipated! It's basically the equivalent to Archie comics. I love that they intentionally use decodable language, and the stories are short, so it's satisfying for kids to get through. While simple, all the stories are complete, and have recognizable characters, which is super fun. The book does say from 4-6, and I think that could probably be omitted, considering it also says level 1. Kids all learn at different rates, and saying 4-6 might make someone who learned later to read not be as interested, even if it's at their reading level. I wouldn't say this is for brand new readers, this is for readers who are comfortable with sentences and following a story.

It's a good comic book and the kids love it, but I may not be enough of an avid reader of comic books because the story lines are very choppy and not written in complete sentences. So, if you are trying to use this to teach them English or improve their reading level, this is not the content you should be purchasing. If you are simply looking to feed the child Spider-Man, which seems to be the #1 superhero in the market today, it's a good purchase.
