Sucks out the snot but not your kids brains...
My son has enlarged adenoids so he's constantly snotty... I've previously used bulb syringes, handheld battery operated snot sucker outters n' the manual mouth sucking apparatus 'Nose Frieda'... 1. The bulb works somewhat but was damaging his sensitive nasal passages when I had to get in there to reach a deep seated snot clog and occasionally causing him to bleed (he's a thrasher who won't be still for nasal cleanings)... 2. The battery vacume just isn't powerful enough to get anything but the watery drippings at the entrance of the nasal passage... and 3. The Nose Frieda is fantastic, doesn't irritate his nasal passages, gets the snot out great but as much as I have to suck out n' coupled with his thrashing I would end up light headed n' wishing I had a third hand. Now this bad boy is a God send!! My 5 year old is Autistic and crazy strong... I would have to wrestle with him for a decent amount of time because from his point of view, 'momma's going to hurt my nose again', so he would punch, kick, scream n' thrash. I've ended up with black eyes, bruised arms n' legs which I would happily endure if it weren't for the emotional damage it was causing my poor boy. Nose cleaning time has drastically changed. Now when my son sees me coming with the vacuum and the aspirator he will initially tell me no but then sits still for his cleanings due to it being over quick n' not having anything poke the inside of his nose. The 1st time I introduced it to him, I let him squirt some aerosol saline solution in my nose, then I used the aspirator on myself and made a point to giggle excliaming, "that tickles!"... offered to let him use it on me while again giggling. Told him it was his turn, squirted saline in his nose and told him I was going to tickle his nose now. No more trauma for either of us now! Cons: 1. Loud because you are using it via a vacuum cleaner. 2. Does not fit all vacuum hoses BUT wrapping a bit of masking tape around the connector end will easily fix that. Pros: 1. Great suction! Note that I did try this on myself 1st to see if it'd be too strong, making it scary for a kid but it's gentle due to the air flow chamber design of the product. 2. Gentle because the end you insert into the nose is wider than a bulb syringe so it helps to create more of a seal and doesn't have to be inserted much into the nasal passage. 3. Easily cleaned by running water through it. 4. Quick and easy to use with a typical unwilling participant. Edit: Fast forward to 2026.. still loving this snot sucker and use it myself whenever I'm sick.. raw nose holes from blowing into a tissue, well, blows and this is so gentle but powerful enough to not just get what's right inside the nose but it even draws out das boogers from the depths.. I just sit with it in my nose, breath through my mouth and wait to stop when I don't feel anymore suction tension inside my nasal passage. One of the tips just broke after 8ish years and was thrilled there was a spare I had forgotten about in the box but I figure I'll reorder as the body of it has seen better days with a couple small cracks that I've just duct taped. Actually, might but two or three because if this ever stops being manufactured I will be devastated!!! Best invention ever! Grossest.. but bestest!

Absolute Must Have with a Baby!!! Regain your sanity during cold & flu season with baby!
Works as advertised! I was skeptical & even a bit freaked out by the thought of this, but it totally worked, so I am extremely happy with it!! My 2 month old baby had the flu :( & of course came to hate the blue bulb nasal syringes that I had to use on her nose so she could suck/eat and even sleep while needing to breath through her nose. She had an infection & runny nose for well over 2 weeks, it just wasn't going away (she almost ended up on antibiotics). This came in the mail just in time!! I immediately opened it, cleaned it and used it! Only 2 more days of a runny nose and back to peaceful sleep for everyone in the house, (& a happy baby again)! The one down side to this product is that (which isn't really a problem with the product itself, but rather my vacuum. My vacuum has a safety/automatic shut-off function when the suction is impeded, (so the motor won't get burned out). The Baby-Vac significantly impedes the suction of the vacuum, that way it's properly regulated suction, and not too strong on your little ones nose. So I have to keep turning my vacuum off & on, and work very quickly to get a good sinus cleaning done on my baby's nose. The BabyVac works so fast that it's not hard to get it done. I can get both nostrils done in seconds less than 10 seconds per side if I work quickly and carefully. If my hubby is available, I have him turn the vacuum off and on for me really quickly while I suction so my vacuum won't turn itself off while I'm in the middle of the job. The whole job is still SO MUCH EASIER than any other way to clean a baby's nose. If I have to, I'll get a different vacuum to use with this Baby-Vac because IT WORKS SO WELL!!! Totally 5 stars!! I love this!! FYI, I'm a total germafobe, so the Nose Freda type devices totally gross me out! Besides when we knew we had the flu, I still think the idea of sucking baby's buggers with my mouth through a tube, regardless of the fact that there's a filter, could still totally pass germs and it TOTALLY GROSSES ME OUT!

This is the aspirator that you didn't know you'll need.
I have been using the Braun aspirator for quite some time now, and it's been pretty okay at doing its job...or so I thought. Since my daughter started daycare this year, the cough and cold rarely stops. The Braun isn't cutting it anymore and even if it pulls something, you can still hear my daughter sniffing. One dad friend recommended this and I thought, isn't it gonna suck the whole lung out? So when this arrived, I tested it on myself with my Miele C3. I just used mid-level suction since I don't wanna fry my motor. It pulls out even my own snot and it's not uncomfortable at all. I tried it on my daughter and you can see the pics for yourself. It keeps pulling out snot that I have to stop so it doesn't go inside my vacuum. Now while it does the job well, it comes with some risk to your vacuum if it's not built well. When I have this on mine, it acts like the bag is full. I would imagine other vacuums that don't use bags will be in trouble since those are built to have good airflow or the motor will break. Cleaning is a bit of a hassle too since you really can't disassemble it aside from the tip. Best you can do is let hot soapy water run down the areas you can't reach with a brush. Still though, this one's a good value. Performance depends on your vacuum. I wouldn't recommend using this with stick vacs. The ones with bags are your safe bets since those are built to work even with a clogged bag.
