Q: Is the vent in the lid just a hole in the glass or should it have a metal ring?

Mine has two small holes in the glass, side by side. No metal rings.

Q: Does the glass lid fit tight or loose?

I don’t think it’s a snug fit. I don’t have to pull to get it off. But I think it’s a normal fit, without any gaps

Q: Is this big enough to boil whole lobster? Thanks.

An 8-quart pot will easily cook one lobster. If you are cooking more than one lobster you'll either need to cook them in stages or have more than one pot of water boiling.
