I've had an electric skillet for 40 years! I will never not have one. The size is perfect for soups, stews, French toast. It pretty much does everything but bake a cake and roast a turkey. It's very easy to clean too. I wouldn't have even needed one except for the fact that I dropped the glass lid and the plastic stand broke. I'm very happy with this skillet.

This pan is truly non stick. Even eggs slide right out. So far I have not noticed any scratches. I have been using it to cook every thing! I only need to add oil for flavor and it just wipes clean. One swipe and it's ready to go again. This pan can hold a lot of food for big dinners but single serving with equal ease.

We liked this skillet for its capacity and ease of cleaning. However, the temperature control malfunctioned. We tested it with water and an infrared thermometer. It runs very hot. As soon as the light came on, the water started to boil. The temperature was already over 250 degrees. When the dial was set to 250, the temperature was about 350. It would not simmer and my husband felt that it might become a fire hazard.

First things first. I am a Graduate Chemist and Chemical Engineer with years of experience in plating metals and applying infusion & non-infusion coatings to metals, including those used on cooking utensils. Do NOT use this product! I will be filing a complaint with the FTC because it is a serious Health Hazard. Also, NOTE the Hazardous Chemical Release Warning on the BOTTOM of the box, WARNING you of Cancer cause, conveniently placed out of sight! Believe it! I only noticed this AFTER repacking to return the product to Amazon. This should NOT be an Amazon Choice product! It should NOT be sold to anyone! 1. I loved the appearance of the product, very attractive, and the right size. Formerly I had purchased 3 great Presto products that were 16". Loved them, but wanted something smaller and with a ceramic coating, which is supposed to be the newest and safest coating. This one looked great, and supported by so many favorable reviews. 2. I thoroughly cleaned the skillet with soap & water, and dried. Started heating the empty skillet at 200F, then after Off Cycle increased to 250 F. Continued stepwise up to 425 F. 3. Got the SHOCK of my life when the acrid odor & smoke from the skillet overwhelmed me. I can only describe it as a combination of Nitric Acid fumes coupled with assorted "Plastizers." I had to open all the doors and windows and turn on two large fans and two vents. I turned off the unit to clear out the fouled air, but the odor persisted for hours, causing a burning sensation in my sinuses and lungs. 4. I suspected that the coating had NOT been fully cured by the manufacturer, a step required to produce a safe and stable product. I decided to heat it in a safe manner until the odor fully disipated. I did this for four (4) hours, after which the odor from the heated skillet had been significantly reduced, but NOT eliminated. I would not cook anything on this unit yet, but I decided to test it further. 4. What about temp accuracy and heating distribution? I pulled out my tried and true laser thermometer. Taking readings from the CENTER of the gridle, this (shock) is what I discovered: (a) Setting the temp to 200 F and at the End of the Cycle, the temp was 488 F, not anywhere near 200 F. After cooling, the thermostat started heating again at 233 F. (b) Setting the temp to 250 F, and measuring the temp at the End of this Cycle the temp was 455 F, again, nowhere near 250 F. After cooling, the unit started up again at 266. (c) Setting the temp to 300 F and at the End of the Cycle, the temp was 493 F, again, nowhere near 300 F. After cooling, the unit started heating again at 313 F. (d) Setting the temp to 425 F and at the End of the Cycle the temp was 440 F, the best agreement, and restarted heating after colling at 440 F. So, basically, you're cooking at 200-300 degrees HIGHER than you thought. So much for thermostats. lol. 5. What about Heat Distribution? Whatever the temp in the center, the temp near the corners would be about 85 F lower. 6. I let the unit rest for half a day, then decided to check on the chemical odor problem again. I placed the glass cover on the skillet and heated up. Everytime I lifted the cover, there was a moment of escaping "smoke" and a whiff of chemical odor. I repeated at each of the four (4) main temps. The smoke and odor were the same, since the temp at the end of each cycle is nearly 500 F, high enough to begin breaking down the coating. 7. THE COATING IS DECOMPOSING UPON HEATING AND ESCAPING AS A WHIFF OF SMOKE......AND THE BY PRODUCTS ARE KNOWN, DANGEROUS CARCINOGENS...that cause CANCER!!! 8. Do NOT use this product if you value your life. I will be filing a complaint with the FTC regarding this dangerous product. It is a FRAUD and a HEALTH HAZARD and needs to be REMOVED from the market ASAP!!!
