No these batteries can be used on both machines. This set has 2 batteries in. Many thanks

Q: Are all the different batteries I can see on different Makita 18v tools interchangeable. If not, can someone tell whats best range to start buying?

Not all makita 18volt batteries are the same. The most popular are the bl range these can power a large range of tools. There is also the series g battery witch is more of a diy battery range. these batteries can not be interchanged. For my money i would go for the tools that take the bl batteries. hope this helps.

Q: Will this 5.0amp battery fit a 3.0amp makita tools

Yes as long as the tool is compatible with the 18v 3.0Ah Li-ion battery that has the star on. If the previous model (without star) fits then the 5.0Ah will not fit.
