Changed the way I see (and manage) pain - for the better
Full of clinical pearls for clinicians, and valuable tools for patients. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone dealing with ongoing pain themselves, as well as any healthcare professional or medical student involved in chronic pain management.

rubbish book
A few good ideas. Not a book as such but a booklet filled out with the story and example of three people. Concision you can stop your pain by breathing correctly and pacing yourself. If only it was that easy!!!!!!

Fantastic reading
I highly recommend this book to those who suffer from chronic illnesses. It has been done fantastically, with care and touch. Taking on account personal views that absolutely reflect reality. Brilliant book.

I was so fortunate to have Dr. Parks as my pain psychologist when I was in the 10 week Mary FreeBed Pain Rehabilitation Program in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is an excellent psychologist and taught me so much about the brain, central nervous system, and pain. This man cares deeply for the people he serves. He has a way of explaining things for those of us who don't have any degrees in medicine, psychology, or neurology that makes it easy to understand what the heck is going on in our bodies and why we hurt so much when images and testing say we shouldn't hurt anymore. I so appreciated my one-on-one time with him while I was in the program, and I love his book as well. The book is a great reminder of the things I learned in person from him, and it helps me stay on track and not get discouraged when I'm having a flare. If you suffer from chronic pain, this book will not take away your pain, but it will certainly help you get on with your life and help you understand that you CAN live with pain and minimize it so you can enjoy your life again! Dr. Parks is the best!!

I'm a physical therapist assistant and I have learned a lot of pain management strategies for my patients but this book has given me practical ways to approach patients with chronic pain that I've been struggling with for years. This is a great resource to have for educating your patients if you are in the medical field. Many thanks to the author!

I am a chronic pain sufferer and a psychotherapist. This was a good book on chronic pain. Some things weren’t descriptive enough and some parts seemed to contradict themselves. And I don’t like the salesman style of writing used in this and most self help books. But overall there was some good useful information to manage pain and other systemic issues associated with chronic pain. I would recommend this book.

I am a primary care physician and have purchased at least 20 copies of this book to give to patients looking for a new perspective on how to live with chronic pain. So many people who have chronic pain want to improve their quality of life without having to rely on repeated procedures (injections, surgeries) or chronic narcotic pain medications. Dr Parks provides a mind-body approach that empowers patients to take charge of their lives by learning how to engage in valued activities despite having chronic pain.
