UPDATE: I've gotten over my dislike of these pedals. Or, maybe more accurately, I've gotten used to them? Either way, there's on the bike I ride nearly every day and I don't even think about them anymore beyond liking the grip they provide and liking the look. ORIGINAL: I don't love these pedals as much as I hoped I would. I have another set of Funn pedals (B0CDPWP8B6; Python alloy) that I love but I do get tired of scraping my shins on the sharp pins. I ordered these because the idea of rounded pins sounded appealing. Unfortunately, the pedals aren't completely flat. I've only had these on my bike for a few days and so have only used them for a few short errands. Maybe I'll get used to them? But so far, my feet miss the flat alloy pedals. For context, I put these on my Tern HSD cargo ebike. I'm a utility cyclist; my bike is my main form of transportation. I ride year-round either in sneakers (spring, summer, fall) or hiking boots (winter). I don't ride in clips; I love the way the pins on the Funn pedals give me almost as much of a 360 stroke as clips do. And I love how well my shoe grips the pedals no matter the weather I'm riding in. But I'm tired of my shin (for some reason it's always the left one) constantly sporting scabs and/or open scrapes from the pins. I might have thought it made me look tough when I was a teen but it's not a great look for a 60yo woman. Overall, these pedals are disappointing. They're just not very comfortable under my feet. YMMV but I wouldn't order them again.

This pedal is my preferred style of platform pedal: A composite plastic body (rather than metal) for warmer feet in winter, lighter weight, and less likelihood of the pedal sticking (rather than sliding), if you strike it on the ground accidentally when cornering. Additionally, I like threaded metal traction pins, because getting good grip on my shoe soles is very important to me. My wife had been slipping around a bit on her all-plastic pedals, and I wanted to get her some new ones for better grip, but I was cautious about it because I didn't want her to risk cutting her shins up on the sharp threaded metal pins of all the other models I've used. That is the double edged sword of the pedals I like, is they bite hard into your shoe soles, but also can bite hard into your shins or calves if you accidentally brush against them. Needless to say, it was a bit of a conundrum, so I was very pleased to discover these Funn pedals which touted their shin-friendly rounded metal traction pins. While I'm sure they don't grip quite as well as a sharp edged one, I think it is the perfect happy medium for a lot of people. If you are riding in really nasty muddy or rough conditions, or always ride in long pants or with shin guards, then sure, get the sharp pinned pedals for max traction, but if you ride in shorts with bare shins, then these are about as grippy a pedal as you could want without risking a trip to the ER for stitches. I don't mean to say that these wouldn't hurt if one whips around and hits you, but the lack of sharp edges will make it an "ouch" rather than a "do you have a first aid kit"! Pro Tip: If you want to improve your grip to the max, without getting too aggressive a pedal, look to your shoes. Brands like 5:10 make super sticky rubber soled shoes specifically for biking that will make nearly any pedal way grippier. Along with the unique pin design, they seem to have done the other regular pedal stuff well. The bearings spin smoothly and without any looseness or play, and they have adequate sealing. They have a somewhat unusual shape, where the pedals are broader on the side close to the bike, and narrower on the side furthest from the bike. It makes some intuitive sense, given that the inside edge of the foot is longer than the outside edge, but I don't know what benefit shortening the outside edge is supposed to confer. Maybe a bit better ground clearance? Anyway, I am neutral on that element of them, although if you have huge feet, then you might prefer the biggest pedals possible rather than one that narrows like this. Altogether, these are a good set of pedals, but there are a lot of good pedals out there, however the pins on these are what really set them apart as a middle ground between slippy all plastic models, and grippy (but sharp) traditional metal pinned ones.

My days of dirt jumping are done, but these pedals would have been great for it. They feel rock solid, and the rounded pegs still bite your shoes well. Make no mistake, if you slip off during a fancy maneuver and hit your shin on them, you will still bleed, but probably just a little. The shape--wide near the big and thinner at the end of the pedal, feels pretty good under your feet. I did not feel a need to adjust them, and need to look up how I could do that if I wanted to. There was a bit of oil draining out of one of the pedals when I received it, but not enough to soak through the box or make a mess. I have these on a beater bike I ride various places in a leisurely manner and sometimes take to work. I think they would work well in any setting you want to use flat pedals, which for me is more and more--I feel insecure doing technical mountain biking with flats, but perhaps I will grow. (And I've only been MTB-ing once this calendar year, it just occurred to me.) They're good for whatever! (Outside of cross country and road racing.)

Decent pedal; purple doesn’t match any other purple accessories I’ve seen so returned them.

They’re simple to install, feel well made, & are lightweight. It took me about 3 minutes to remove my old pedals and attach these. It comes with a tiny Allen wrench but that’s only for use with the spikes, not to actually put the pedals on the bike. You’ll need an 8mm Allen wrench to install them. They’re bigger than standard pedals which I really like (also good for anyone with larger feet, lol). There’s more contact between my shoe & the pedal so I have less foot fatigue. The spikes provide great grip & are less sharp than others, but I don’t quite believe they’re “shin friendly”. I might not need sutures at the nearest urgent care, but certainly several band-aids. I haven’t actually tested them against my calves or shins so can’t swear to that. These are great quality pedals, and I can highly recommend them!

I'm fairly new into MTB, but have been an avid road cyclist for years... these are a MUST if you're getting into off road riding. The difference in grip for a pedal of this style, vs a more standard pedal is NIGHT and DAY. An absolute must. These were super easy to swap out, come with an allen wrench for the spikes... excellent quality, a great product in my opinion.
