Perfect for on to 8 people.
Perfect for at home raclette. And if you like raclette like I do but cannot find the raclette cheese all year, here is a tip. By the sliced pack, open it, separate each slice with parchment paper, put it in freezer bag, and in the freezer it goes. Make sure to saw it hours or the night before, and then you have it raclette all year long. By the way raclette is best with little potatoes and small cocktail onions.

So Much Fun — The Ultimate Interactive Meal!
This Hamilton Beach Raclette Grill has been such a fun addition to our kitchen! It turns dinner into an experience. Whether it’s family night or hosting a few friends, everyone loves making their own mini creations. The top grill is perfect for veggies, meats, or toasting bread, and the individual trays underneath make melting cheese a total joy. Cleanup is easy, the nonstick surface works great, and everything heats up evenly. It’s interactive, low-pressure, and turns even a simple meal into something memorable. If you love food and fun, this is a must-have.

not super hot, but good enough for the price
I was born and raised in Holland, and we call this a "gourmet set" (raclette is actually an entirely different thing, but I won't get into that :)). For the past 20 years I had been telling my wife and kids about it, and finally decided to get a set. There's a bunch of them, and price wise this seemed to be a middle of the road option. What I'm not sure about is whether 110 volts is not enough to properly heat appliances like these in the US, or if there are fire hazard reasons for keeping the temp down. Growing up in Holland, our gourmet set used to be much hotter than this, so you can actually sear meat/veggies, and it doesn't take 15 minutes to cook a tiny piece of chicken. This set did an OK job at cooking food. It was too bad that it didn't sear the ingredients, but we were able to get past that and enjoy our "gourmet" meal. Other than that, we've had wonderful meals with this one, and I am very happy to have gotten this one. If it is important to you do have a good sear, then this is not the one for you. I'd say when you plan for your meal, make a couple side dishes so you're not waiting most of the evening for the food to cook.

Great Raclette Grill
We love this Raclette grill and have used it several times a year for the last 2 years. A lot of fun at a casual dinner party with friends and family where everyone can grill/warm/melt what they like when they like. Have cooked thinly sliced meats, seafood and veggies on the top grill and warmed/melted/baked a variety of cheeses in the trays. We have also used it along with hot oil fondue pots where we fry up larger pieces of diced meats/potatoes and then use this Raclette grill for veggies and lighter items. One thing to keep in mind when considering this grill, is that it's a Raclette style grill and is designed to grill thinly sliced proteins, veggies, etc. Most people would find that you will not be able to sufficiently grill thick pieces of meat or other items that generally really much higher heat. That's not what this is designed for. For Raclette style grilling, for the large size of the unit and for the price, you'll be hard pressed to find a better deal. Highly recommended!

Recently introduce to raclette dining in Switzerland and I’m hooked.
Raclette dining is fantastic fun. I recently was traveling in Switzerland and got hooked after being introduced to a raclette picnic. This raclette works great. Melted the cheese to bubbling (Trader Joes has sliced Raclette cheese) which is perfect. My family loved the dining experience. I saw some of the reviews about not heating hot enough but we just melted cheese and warmed the baguette slices on top. The only thing is that you need a longer extension cord if you are placing a larger dining table.

So easy to use — and now it’s a family tradition!
We absolutely love this raclette grill! It was super easy to set up and even easier to clean. I hand washed the top grill plate, and everything else went straight into the dishwasher — no stress at all! We’ve already used it several times, and it turned into a fun tradition with my kids. Everyone gets to cook what they like, and we laugh so much around the table. If you’re looking for something that brings the family together in a fun and delicious way… this is it!

Has its merits--but it's our least favorite of four models
I own four different brands of this product, and my family has been using these raclette grills for 30 years. Although this grill has its merits, it is our least favorite of the four. Pros: 1. The top grilling surface is the largest we have seen, and it accommodates four or even five diners relatively comfortably. There's plenty of grilling surface area for everyone--a big plus. 2. This top surface is also easy to clean. Grooves are shallow enough and non-stick enough not to hold onto the little burnt particles that inevitably form during grilling. Everything washes off easily. 3. The whole machine is lightweight, which is nice when you are packing it up for storage after dinner. If this feature matters to you, you'll be quite happy (and if you buy a different brand, you should definitely avoid the cast-iron options). 4. Excellent price compared to other models. Great as a wedding gift, for example. Cons: 1. It does not heat evenly or quickly. This is a major disadvantage of this machine. Over the holidays, we used it three different times, and we heard guests commenting quietly along the lines of, "Is this thing still on?" or "Should we turn up the temperature?" We had put this new machine within reach of the guests so that they would have the largest grilling surface, but after hearing such comments, we decided to test it out ourselves, only to discover that although the center seems to heat decently well, the heat does not get distributed well to the ends and sides. Anyone using this machine will have to wait longer for food to heat or cheese in the little trays to melt. Huge downside, in our opinion. We had four machines running at once, and the guests at this table were the last to start and finish eating, simply because the machine did not keep up with the others. 2. Offsetting the advantage of the larger size of cooking surfaces on this model is the noticeable drop in quality. The little skillets/trays for melting cheese feel a little cheap. The other brands that we own have a slightly more substantial feeling to the metal edges and to the plastic handles. On this one, the metal edges are sort of rolled rather than neatly finished (and if you're not careful, you could cut your finger while you are washing them, as some edges are a bit sharp). 3. The cord is too short. You'll probably need an extension cord unless your outlet is really, really close to the table. Overall, this is a decent machine. It isn't bad, and it will do the job. People who have not experienced raclette with a different brand (like the excellent Swissmar we've owned for 29 years) may not even notice the lower quality aspects that bother me. We will keep it and use it again, but we will keep our expectations low and probably make sure our guests are using the better machines.
