For me this was a good value because I have several projects involving dye. When I use table salt I have to use a large amount and usually I never have enough salt. So I decided to try what professionals use which is Alum. It's versatile to if you like to pickle stuff, It's food grade. Just an FYI, never add Alum to soda ash solution. You will have a foamy mess that you can't believe.

Purchased as a mordant for dying wool. The packaging seals nice and tight and the product does what it should.

Product arrived in a typical Quart sizes square plastic jar, with an easily resealable circle Lid, the product inside is granulated with some flat flaky crystals , which is nice as it will easily dissolve in water. I just dissolve some in a bucket of water, a small quantity and dip my feet in it as a topical antiseptic, and perspiration preventer. Your mileage may vary. It works well dissolved in some water and topically applied to the under arms to prevent smells . Be sure to air dry before dressing, as the dissolved crystal could discolor your cloths or sandals

I bought this for my aunt and uncle. They make a paste from it to stop bleeding when they get a cut. It was a great value for that size.

I make old fashioned crystal pickles every year and they were so crispy using this alum!

I should’ve read the listing more carefully. This is Alum (there are many forms of Alum), but not the one I wanted to purchase. If you’re wanting to use this for home remedies or growing crystals, it will NOT work! This is NOT Potassium Aluminum Sulfate (does not melt when exposed to heat and does not dissolve in hot water) Unfortunately, since it’s considered a “food item,” it cannot be returned, so try to find a more reputable brand before you waste your money like I did.
