My review comes with a story. 2 years ago I took the plunge and bought a pair of RedWing Iron Rangers, boots famous for lasting your entire life and infamous for having a demonic break-in period. I have wide feet so I had to go up in size, but they never broke in properly and the crease that forms when stepping was causing regular blisters on both the underside and top of my feet. I accepted this for 2 winters and as a last hail mary before tossing the boots in the bin I was informed that I could get a mechanical shoe stretcher to try and force the shoes to fit. I bought these and they have made my Iron Rangers not only bearable to wear, but they're now as comfortable as they were originally meant to be. No more blisters, no more soreness, it just works. I wear them during the day and put the stretchers back in to make sure they don't shrink back to original size, though I am fairly confident I won't have to do that more than a month before they fully stick to the shape. Story over, review time. The shoe stretcher is an all-plastic shell construction but it's strong enough to really deform thick leather under pressure. The turning mechanism is easy to use, and the package comes with a bag and accessories to put pressure on specific areas of the boot - although I never used them I am happy that they come with. On full compression they fit snugly into my boots and the stretching mechanism is easy to use. The resistance on the streching mechanism increases the more you do it as the leather resists deformation, but that prevents you from overcranking it and damaging your boots. I am incredibly happy with these just on the basis that it has made a pair of expensive boots fit like they were meant to. I think that these are useful just to have around the house and if you wear or purchase new boots regularly, these will help make sure that they fit right.

Like most people I have one foot slightly larger than the other, but unfortunately I also suffer from a painful neuroma on the slightly larger foot. This makes wearing winter shoes and boots an extremely distressing experience. My podiatrist has helped somewhat by supplying me with well fitted arch supports, plus wearing shoes with a very low heel has helped in alleviating the pain, but nothing has come close to making my feet comfortable until I discovered this wonderful shoe stretcher. After just a few days of having it fitted into my troublesome boot it had stretched the leather to a beautifully comfortable fit. The relief was instant. I don't dread putting my boots on any more, and I no longer fear having to go out. Now my boots fit perfectly and I can wear them all day without feeling any pain at all. Purchasing this boot stretcher has really made a big change in my life and given me instant comfort and confidence. Best of all I was able to buy a single boot stretcher, which suited my needs perfectly. It fits both boots and shoes. Made of sturdy plastic It will adjust lengthways as well as widthways and comes with a sturdy long metal shoe horn which I find really useful. My boots are suede and I had some concerns that using a spray would leave marks, but I found the stretcher worked perfectly well without. I'll definitely be recommending buying this fabulous gadget to friends.

This works ok, provided that you apply the stretching bit-by-bit. If you try to do it all at once then you will likely break the device (because it's mostly made of plastic). These are sold singly (not in pairs) which is annoying. They are also more expensive compared to other similar products (even more so if you need a pair of them and not just one). There are almost identical devices sold in pairs for significantly less money. The item arrived in good condition with all parts present. My only gripe is that the holes for the plug-in attachments do not go close enough to the tip of the toe area, so they can't stretch the part of footwear that is the narrowest. I ended up having to drill some extra holes at the tip of the toe, but once I did that the device stretched the exact area that I needed (although I'd rather have not had to drill the holes myself). It really should have come with holes in that position in the first place, because the majority of footwear tapers towards the toe, so that is obviously going to be a common pinch-point that people will want to stretch.
