Q: what is in the box with the white Sony HX10 camera?

In the box, it just came in with the camera, USB cable, and the guidelines for the camera.

Q: Is the lens glass ED? Also, are there aspheric elements in the lens?

I have no idea. Maybe Sony's web site will tell you.

Q: Is there any difference in quality between the cameras made in japan vs.china? if you have one made in china are you satisfied with it?

I would not consider a camera made in China, there is little available information of their experience in camera optics. In my 60 years as a very active photographer, I have used only Rolleiflex, Nikon, Canon, Sony and Olympus, from $1000 + to $200. Four Japanese brands one German. My current Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX10V (Japan) gets all the use these days (excluding my iPhone, which is a great camera). Your most important camera will always be the one you have with you. Obviously I have'nt used 35MM in years. I bought the Sony for two reasons, xtra zoom (Optical) and Video with snapshot capability.

Sorry I took so long Monty, here is how you access the camera memory without the software:1. attach the camera to your computer using the supplied USB connector - after a few moments your computer should recognize your camera. (you may also remove the memry card from your camera and use a card reader -(highly recommended)2. your PC should pop a window asking what you want to do3. click Open Folder to view Files4. Next open the DCIM file5. Open the folder or folders inside the DCIM folder6. you should now see your photos, 7 go to the top of the list and left click, hold the left mouse button down and go to the bottom of the list - all your photos should now be highlighted8. now right click and hit cut or copy from the list (WARNING: DOING THIS WRONG CAN ERASE YOUR PHOTOS, YOU WILL NOT GET THEM BACK) - cutting will remove them from your camera memory, and hold the photos until you paste them somewhere. 9. now open the folder on your computer where you want to put the photos.10. right click in a blank area of the folder and click paste from the list- your photos should now be on your computer, the more photos you have the longer the transfer will take.Hope this helps, if you are not comfortable doing this way then don't try it. As I said it is easy to delete or misplace your photos with this method.
