K&S K & S Precision Metals 87131 2PK 1/16x12 SS Rod, 1/16" OD, Steel, 2 Count

I purchased this K&S 87147 Round Stainless Steel Rod, 1/2" OD x 12" Long for the intended purpose of using it as a gauge for a prototype project. I was in a position of needing to know if a certain size steel shaft would be the correct fit without having to buy, measure, and cut a specific length of that size shaft just to see if it would work. I scanned Amazon for any round metal object or type of elongated shaft of a certain diameter in size that I could use instead of having to use the method mentioned. Luckily, I came upon these precut 12 inch long K&S rods. I found that some of the rods offered were available in different materials and in quite a few diameters of interest. Long story short, I was able to order a handful of these rods in the various diameters for a fraction of the cost of just one length of a steel shaft. These K&S shafts made it easily possible to test each size and determine which size would best work for my project. And, as a bonus, I was also able to use these same rods as spindles in my floor standing drill press to cut short lengths of different ID tubing with — which these pieces of tubing were also part of my project. I had already engineered a horizontal cutting gig with adjustable blade depth for my drill press, so the rest was easy with these rods. These K&S 12 inch long rods turned out to be just another unexpected purchase that worked out perfectly. The quality of these rods was better than expected and each one had a decent finish. Each rod was also well within the expected tolerances of size and overall length. I have found many more uses for these K&S rods!

Had to order a 2nd time as they sent the wrong diameter (7/16" vs. 1/4" I ordered). Other than that, it'll perform well I'm sure.

Good item, photo in listing is misleading, since you only get one rod. I probably would have ordered anyway, since I only need one, but still was surprised and had to go back and check description.

As was expected, arrived on time and was perfect for the purpose it was ordered.

I bought it to fit in my mighty mag to sweep in steady rest for alignments. I’ll cut in 2.5”, 4” and 5.5 (left over)” and if I need anything longer, I’ll order another 12” piece..

Met my needs without having to drive all over to find it.

This rod is slightly larger than 7/16. I required a precise fit and I drilled three sample holes with three different 7/16 bits before drilling my main piece to test fit and all three holes were too small. I had to shave down the rod to eventually fit.

For what I needed it for it was perfect because of moisture it had to be Stainless Steel. The diameter was exact and the finish was excellent.
