A Great Vegan Sushi Product
This was a great nostalgia for me. I used to get sushi with my grandfather as a kid and haven't had something similar to smelt roe sushi for 16 years. The Flavor and texture is close, you dont get the poping sensation of smelt roe, but the other textures and flavors are just as close. Thanks so much for making and selling this product. My grandfather passed away earlier this year and it was nice to relive some of those memories.

Tastes like plastic
If I could I would give it a ZERO! This product had the taste of straight up plastic! The smell and taste were so strong it was not worth digesting and I had to throw it away. WASTE OF MONEY!

Kid tested!
My son is a little caviar fiend. Which sucks for me because I don't have caviar money! However, each time the holidays roll around, my mother used to get him a small jar of the cheap stuff from the local store. She left the mortal realm about 2 years ago and I'm keeping up the tradition. This year, with the pandemic going on, I didn't get to the grocery store as often as I'd have liked so I looked online. Honestly, I did not have high expectations for this product. My son, however, LOVED it. He says it tastes like real caviar. It has the right "mouth feel." I'm taking his word for it, I never cared for the texture or flavor of caviar. He was happy with it! Even happier when I told him no fish were harmed or harassed to make it. In fact, until I told him, he had no idea it wasn't real in spite of the name. He just thought it was clever. This is a well made seaweed based caviar. It simulates the real thing very well and satisfies the kiddo. I'll definitely buy more for him in the future.

Not caviar, but not bad
I took the chance, given the bad reviews, and I’m not mad I did. But there are a few things to consider. Does it taste like actual caviar when you eat it directly on its own? Not really no. I think the “chemical” or “plastic” taste some reviews mention is really the taste of the seaweed it’s made of; it’s an ocean taste, just not the taste of fish/caviar. It looks so much like caviar that when you first taste it there’s this disconnect with the seaweed flavor, but the aftertaste is almost convincing, and it has nice pop and crunch. However, that all being said, this stuff really shines as a garnish. Sprinkle it on your sushi and it looks beautiful, and you get the great crunch with an ocean flavor that’s a bit lighter and less salty than the real deal, but not bad. Especially considering the price point, and the fact that it’s sustainable.

Inconsistant quality
The taste and texture are delicate, but the viscosity was inconsistent. Sometimes the product is thick, sometimes mostly liquid and runny and needs to be strained, and sometimes the jars are only 2/3rd full. I make vegan sushi, and unfortunately, I cannot rely on this product, especially when entertaining. I will try it again.

Fantastic, the negative review people must not like seafood flavor!
I am now using this in my Japanese Spicy Mayo sauce for tuna avocado salads/tuna poki salad (sashimi). Japanese Mayo, kimchi sauce (hot sauce), and normally Masago (fish roe/caviar), now I use this stuff! Works perfect to add texture, color and taste to the spicy Mayo sauce, just like you get at the sushi restaurant. By the way, Masago is hard to get now for some reason. By itself it tastes very similar to regular old cheap caviar. Actually, I think it has more of a seawater/saltwater flavor which I absolutely love. Kind of like the juice out of a fresh oyster. I’d guess that is where the negative reviews come from, if you dont like that flavor, you should not be buying caviar, especially fake caviar made from seaweed. I love it, good product, and probably will save some fish species from harvesting fish roe…. I’m no tree hugger, and have no interest in this company/brand/store…. don’t even know where it’s made? I think it’s a good product. Enjoy

Strange Taste
Basically this tastes like nothing. Not even worth the low price

Adds a nice touch to sushi
I love sushi, but I don't trust raw fish when I'm making a batch to eat over a couple days. I make simple and healthy vegan rolls stuffed with cucumber, avocado, pickled daikon, marinated shiitakes, natto, and seaweed salad, in many different combinations. This elevates not only the presentation, but the flavor of my sushi. It tastes like the sea. Delicious, great texture, pungent but not too fishy, even after sitting on the rice and filling overnight. My local grocer sells the black version, but I've only found the orange ones here on Amazon. I found the price to be comparable and it's nice to have it shipped right to me. I'll probably get 2 or 3 big batches of sushi out of this jar judging by what I've used on this one (I've added more since the photo was taken because I prefer the taste with it more than without), and I'm sure I'll want to get more when it runs out. I recommend!
