Great bit of kit
Great bit of kit. Noticeably quicker than the rp4

Great engineering learning tool for the price
Excellent device for hobbyists and small development projects. You do need to get a properly rated power supply (5v5A) and active cooling solution if you’re doing anything with medium to high processing demand. Otherwise it can be a bit unstable. I also got an m.2 pcie hat as I think it’s a must if you plan on keeping it on for long periods as any kind of server. But this is my 3rd pi so I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons from previous experiences. The new stable release of raspberry pi connect is also a great way of accessing your device outside of your local network.

A Solid Addition to My Pi 5 Fleet — High Performance, Great Value
I bought this Raspberry Pi 5 (16 GB) to slot into my existing collection of Pi 5 devices, and I’m very pleased with it. The build quality is spot on — the board feels robust, the components are well placed, and there’s no sign of shoddy soldering or loose parts. In terms of performance and power, this Pi 5 delivers exactly as expected. The processor handles all the tasks I throw at it (media, code, small server duties) with no lag. Power draw is reasonable: under moderate load, it stays in a comfortable range and doesn’t get too hot (keeping passive cooling in mind). It’s not a PSU, so you’ll need a solid 5 V supply (I’m using a 27 W USB-C power supply). USB connectivity is generous. You get two USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports, all working reliably. I’ve run SSDs off the USB 3.0 ports and they saturate nicely. The compatibility is excellent: all my existing software, HATs, and accessories work seamlessly (GPIO, cameras, etc.). On value for money, this board is a strong buy. For what you get — the jump in performance, memory, and connectivity — it’s worth the price I paid. In my lineup of multiple Pi 5s, this one holds up without compromise. If you’re expanding a Pi-based setup or want a high end single board, this one won’t hold you back.

This one works as a desktop PC.
I use the Pi with a 2TB NVMe drive and a Pironman 5 max case to program the ESP32 microcontrollers and dabble with putting AI models into the Pi AI camera. I use VS Code as the IDE. In this scenario the Pi works perfectly as a desktop replacment. 16GB is more than you need, but I stick with the more is better idea with memory :) I previously had the Pi 4 and used that as a desktop mini PC - which was "just" about OK. This Pi 5 is so much more powerful and is more than powerful enough for general PC type usage.

Toys for nerds...
awesome little bit of kit, might even work for a temporary computer in an emergency, but after several months I am still struggling to find any actual use for it.... Still fun to mess around with though!
