I would not stack them the base has feet

No! The shelves are way too small for plates. It could display cups and saucers and bowls and small pitchers, but that is about it. On this picture of the cabinet, the picture is hung low to make it look like it is taller.

Q: Is the back made of wood or more like heavy cardboard held on with little nails?

It’s all wood. It’s like a triangular prism. So 4 sides are hard wood (left and right top and bottom. Front side it’s the glass mirror.

Q: Does the back have holes for wires?

No holes but they would be easy to drill.
