Chifles (pronounced CHIEF-les) was established in Tampa, Florida in 1963. The founding family was inspired by vendors who sold plantain chips on the streets of Havana, Cuba. At the time, not many people were looking for gluten-free, vegan snacks but it was no secret that plantain chips were delicious. Chifles produces a variety of tasty treats that offer a healthier alternative to traditional potato chips and other fatty, salty and chemically enhanced snacks. Plantains are a member of the banana family, but must be cooked prior to eating. Banana-like appearance aside, green plantains boast a savory flavor that’s uniquely their own. Our plantain chips are high in potassium – equal to a banana – and contain vitamins A and C. Chifles plantain chips are cooked in vegetable oil and seasoned with just a hint of salt, resulting in a tasty treat that’s a cut above traditional potato chips. With potassium, fiber, and vitamins A and C, they’re the perfect snack!
